Two couples and their single friend, all at different stages in their relationships, deal with the complications of dating, commitment, and marriage.

Partners is a comedy that is about a life long bromance between Joe and Louis, two architects who have been friends nearly their entire lives. They are now are business partners, owning their own small architecture firm. Joe is very rational and level headed, following his head over his heart, sometimes a detriment to his relationships. Joe is newly engaged to Ali, a beautiful jewelry designer who brings out the best in him. Louis, in contrast to Joe, is passionate, outspoken and tends to exaggerate in order to make his point. Louis' partner's name is Wyatt, and is a vegan male nurse who is soft spoken and overly understanding. As they live their lives they must find a way to adapt, redefining the bond between them both personally and professionally now that there is an addition of two other important relationships.

Divorced former baseball player Charlie Goodson is now an anger management therapist. He has a teenage daughter with obsessive-compulsive disorder and he has a purely sexual relationship with his therapist and best-friend Dr. Kate Wales. But soon his ex-wife and daughter become his past family, as they are being replaced by what is a non-official but real and much more close of a family to him: his anger management group.

Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper are both brilliant physicists working at Cal Tech in Pasadena, California. They are colleagues, best friends, and roommates, although in all capacities their relationship is always tested primarily by Sheldon's regimented, deeply eccentric, and non-conventional ways. They are also friends with their Cal Tech colleagues mechanical engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali. The foursome spend their time working on their individual work projects, playing video games, watching science-fiction movies, or reading comic books. As they are self-professed nerds, all have little or no luck with women. When Penny, a pretty woman and an aspiring actress from Omaha, moves into the apartment across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon's, Leonard has another aspiration in life, namely to get Penny to be his girlfriend.

This sitcom is about the fairly ordinary daily lives of young newlywed New Yorkers, too-nice-for-his-own-good filmmaker Paul Buchman and his assertive partner Jamie Stemple Buchman, who are almost constantly (working up to) bickering and making up with each other and just about anybody else, notably his parents and siblings, her sister, their colleagues, friends, superintendent, and neighbors, psychotherapist, all kinds of staff, customers, officials, bystanders etc., even their dog Murray and his dog-walker.

Fran Reeves, a frantic Jewish divorcée, fell madly in love with Riley Douglas Martin, a lovely, hunky contractor half her age, who moves in with her and her nasty ex Ted's two adolescent children, Joshua 'Josh', a timid med school drop-out, and Allison, a bitchy high-school girl. They all have a hard enough time finding out where they fit in this reconstituted, unofficial household, not an actual family, and things are even worse whenever outsiders wonder or ignore how it all works, given the shifted generations, Riley being barely older then his 'step-kids', actually an ideal big brother if only he were a sibling rather than the provider. Alliances and antagonisms shift, but ultimately true love triumphs and things work out.

Both face challenges in their quest to lose weight -- Molly from her slender sister and mother and Mike at the diner where he frequently eats. But having found each other, they will support each other as they try to achieve their goals, be it weight loss or Molly's decision to quit teaching and pursue her dream as a writer.

Greg's lazy, incompetent colleague Pete Cavanaugh and Dharma's odd friend Jane likewise develop improbably chemistry as they observe their friends' relationship.

Ellen Morgan (Ellen DeGeneres) is a neurotic thirtysomething bookstore owner who tries to get by in life dealing with her various friends, including outgoing redhead Paige Clark (Joely Fisher), insecure photographer Adam Green (Arye Gross), her own unsure-of-himself cousin Spence Kovak (Jeremy Piven), coffee-shop guy Joe Farrell (David Anthony Higgins), and critical and obnoxious Audrey Penney (Clea Lewis). Her biggest challenge is being around her annoying, overbearing parents, Lois (Alice Hirson) and Harold (Steve Gilborn).

When Dave and Vicky were growing up, their parents had it easy. Back then, there were no "time-outs," no one had any "boundaries" and their parents had no idea what their kids were really up to. Now Dave and Vicky have teenagers of their own, and anything their kids might even think about doing, Dave and Vicky have already done at least twice. But knowledge isn't power, it's a giant pain as every day is a battle to keep their kids in line. Fifteen-year-old Larry isn't exactly a frequent diner at the 'cool kids' table in the cafeteria, while 16-year-old Hillary is a know-it-all and is just emerging onto the dating scene. Meanwhile, thirteen-year-old Mike is all hormones and video games. Dave and Vicky figure if they can send these three off to college without a police record or kids of their own, they've done their job. This witty, irreverent show goes inside the heads of a modern family through the use of a confessional space where the characters reveal everything they could never actually say to one another.
