Song of the Unicorns

4.3/5

This is my favourite book in the Avalon series by far. In this book Emily, Adrian and Kara fly out to New Mexico to meet Emilys dad and her new stepmom. While on a trail ride Emily senses that an animal is in danger, With the help of Adrian and Dreamer, they discover that a group of thirty baby unicorns are in danger. They were on their way to their academy when a dark creature, the Golem at the end of the book I presume, tries to attack the baby unicorns and the centaurs entrusted with the babies safety. Apparently they fell off a bridge and fell into a portal in New Mexico, what are the chances? The unicorns are still babies haven’t grown their horns yet. The baby unicorns are beautiful, even before their horns grow and their true colours come to life. There’s supposed to a be a princess and prince born in every generation, very interesting, you don’t know who until their horns are tuned. I loved reading about the girls giving them baths and cutting their hair, that was fun to read. I also loved the colour descriptions in this book, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, nothing makes a good book like good colour descriptions. Some of the unicorns are mint green, sunburst orange, lavender, aqua blue, some even sparkle like diamonds. This series is a very colourful read to say the least, and I love it! I’m not a fan of the whole desert scene, but the unicorns definitely made up for it. In this book you also find out that there are nine power crystals missing from Avalon, apparently they were lost when Kara opened the portals and released the magic onto the web. I’m not sure exactly what’s these power crystals do, I think it has something to do with harnessing the magic of Avalon. I’ll find out more in the next books. As it turns out the dark sorceress has some allies in the other world, and she intends in finding the power crystals too. She desperately needs a new hobby. I don’t understand how she could want to destroy such a beautiful world and such wonderful magical creatures. But that’s what a villain does, she’ll get hers in the end. Onto book eight.
