Books like Pan's Labyrinth

Mar Diestro-Dopido's BFI: Pan's Labyrinth (2013) is yet another example of extensive look at a contemporary classic film, this time by the Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. After the Introduction: The Real and the Imagined, Pan's Impact, A Long, Long Time Ago , the book is divided into four chapters: 1.The Horror(s) of War: Spanish War(s), The Mexican Connection, The War and the Past, 2.Vidal and Amnesia: Family Ties, Vidal's Three Denials, 3.Ofelia and Memory: The Underworld, 4. The End...: The Undying Past. There's also an interview between the author and del Toro included in the book. Diestro-Dopido does a great job of creating the context of the film, especially with the Spanish Civil War, and how it ties in with his earlier films Cronos and The Devil's Backbone (both of which I am inspired to see now).
