Vermillion Lies were a cabaret band from Oakland, California. The band consisted of siblings Kim Boekbinder and Zoe Boekbinder. They are known for incorporating elements of circus and folk into their music. The band stated on their website on August 7, 2009: "Our exciting news today is that Vermillion Lies is giving way to two solo careers! We will still be playing some shows together as Vermillion Lies, but most of our energies and attentions will be going to our solo music at this time."

Carina Round (born 20 April 1979) is a British singer-songwriter from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands of England.

In the summer of 1996, following a gig in a basement acoustic club in Wolverhampton, Round was given a three-night support at Ronnie Scott's club in Birmingham. This led to support slots with the likes of David Gray, Miles Hunt, Ben Christophers, Mark Eitzel, Cousteau, Elbow, I am Kloot, Turin Brakes, Ed Harcourt and Ryan Adams, who after she supported him in Birmingham, invited her to be his guest at his London shows. At these shows, they again performed their co-written song "Idiots Dance" and "Come Pick Me Up" as encores. The following months saw Round joined by Simon Jason Smith on double-bass, Marcus Galley on drums and guitarist Tom Livemore. Their first gig together was a special one-off supporting Coldplay at the Birmingham Songwriters Festival.

She is known for her dynamic musical projects, which have ranged in style from noise rock to acoustic folk-influenced, and featured vocals ranging from childlike whispers to harsh scream singing. The daughter of a father in the British Army, Garside had an itinerant childhood, growing up in several places in England, and spending a significant portion of her adolescence aboard a yacht. She rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of the indie noise rock band Daisy Chainsaw, which she formed in 1989 in London with guitarist Crispin Gray.

After quitting Daisy Chainsaw in 1993, Garside went into seclusion for several years before reuniting with Gray in 1999 to form the rock band Queenadreena, with whom she released four studio albums between 2000 and 2008. 8in8 is a supergroup comprising Ben Folds, Amanda Palmer, Neil Gaiman, and Damian Kulash of OK Go. In 2011 they gathered together with the intention of writing and recording eight songs in eight hours, hence the name "8in8". Aside from being friends, members of the group have various connections with each other: at the time, Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer were married, and Ben Folds appeared on and produced Palmer's solo debut Who Killed Amanda Palmer. Dark cabaret has come to define a particular musical genre that draws on the aesthetics of burlesque, vaudeville and Weimar-era cabaret, with live performances that borrow from the stylings of goth and punk.

One of the earliest bands to play mainly or exclusively in a style which might now be described as dark cabaret were the Tiger Lillies, formed in London in 1989. In the 1980s satirical cabaret had been revived and popularised by London-based bands such as Fascinating Aïda and Kit and The Widow but the Tiger Lillies incorporated themes of blasphemy, prostitution and bestiality in their songs, sung by Martyn Jacques in a menacing style with a falsetto voice.

Evelyn Evelyn are a fictional musical duo created by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley. According to the backstory provided by Palmer and Webley, the duo consists of conjoined twin sisters, Evelyn and Evelyn Neville, who were discovered in 2007 by Palmer and Webley. The twins are actually portrayed by Palmer and Webley, dressed in connected garments.

Bitter Ruin are an English "experimental pop" duo from Brighton, UK, formed in 2007 by Georgia Train (lead vocals, backing vocals, piano) and Ben Richards (lead vocals, backing vocals, guitar, piano, bass).

Richards and Train met in 2007 as music students at Brighton Institute of Modern Music, and performed, mostly in Brighton and London, and recorded a few EPs. In 2010 they played a short tour supporting Evelyn Evelyn. Matt Lucas helped manage the band, as well as performing with the band at several of their shows.

The band's 2011 single, "Trust", was placed at no 19 in the UK Independent Singles Breakers Chart on Sunday 16 October.

In October 2012 the band recorded The Rocket Sessions EP at Rocket Studios in London. The band raised £33,000 in 2013 on Kickstarter to build a home studio for the recording of their second album Waves. They were invited by Kickstarter to talk about their experience at an industry conference at Somerset House, London on 22 October 2013. The band supported Ben Folds Five on their European reunion tour in December.
