Simon Templar is a modern day Robin Hood of sorts. He steals from rich criminals and keeps the loot for himself (usually in such a way as to put the rich criminals behind bars). He's dashing, suave, charming, and he's always one step ahead of the bulldog-like Inspector Claude Eustace Teal. This series chronicles his swashbuckling exploits.

Maxwell Smart is a bumbling secret agent, assigned by his "Chief" to foil KAOS' latest plans for taking over the world. Invariably, Smart's bumbling detective style lands him in hot water. Lucky for him, his faithful assistant "99" is there to bail him out.

Bodie and Doyle, top agents for Britain's CI5 (Criminal Intelligence 5), and their controller, George Cowley fight terrorism and similar high-profile crimes. Cowley, a hard ex-MI5 operative, hand-picked each of his men. Bodie was a cynical ex-SAS paratrooper and mercenary whose nature ran to controlled violence, while his partner, Doyle, came to CI5 from the regular police force, and was more of an open minded liberal. Their relationship was often contentious, but they were the top men in their field, and the ones to whom Cowley always assigned to the toughest cases.

McGill (known as "Mac") is a former U.S. intelligence agent based in London. After being thrown out of the agency for something he did not do, he finds his infamous reputation has preceded him everywhere he goes. To make ends meet he takes odd and intriguing "private eye" jobs throughout Europe, all the while trying to clear his name.

John Drake is a special operative for N.A.T.O., specializing in security assignments against any subversive element which threatened world peace. The series featured exotic locales from all over the world, as his assignments frequently took him to Africa, Latin America, and the Far East.

The Saint's a modern day Robin Hood of sorts; he prevents criminals from succeeding . Horace Rumpole is an "Old Bailey Hack," one of the underpaid barristers who ply the courtrooms of the Old Bailey, London's criminal court. Rumpole refused to handle most suits and will never prosecute. He always defends. Each of his trials has both a victory and a defeat in them, his clients who are acquitted often angrier than those who are found guilty. There is always at least one and often two subplots.

English Lord Brett Sinclair and American Danny Wilde are both wealthy playboys, they are teamed together by Judge Fullton to investigate crimes which the police can't solve. These two men are complete opposites, but become great friends through their adventures and constantly risk their own lives for one another.

The Protectors were Harry Rule, the Contessa di Contini and Paul Buchet, three freelance troubleshooters who ran an international crime fighting agency. Based in London, Harry was the leader of the group. The Contessa lived in Italy and, when she wasn't working with Harry, ran her own detective agency that specialized in exposing art fraud and recovering stolen art. Paul Buchet worked out of Paris, and was the group's researcher and gadget specialist. Their adventures ranged from simple kidnapping to convoluted cases of international intrigue.

An elite department within Interpol, Department S inherits those cases which the other member groups have failed to solve. The brains of the group is Jason King, a hedonistic maverick who writes mystery novels and solves real-life crimes by projecting himself into the shoes of his fictional hero, Mark Caine. American Stewart Sullivan is the fighter and pragmatist of the group, as down to Earth and cynical as Jason is flighty and flamboyant. Annabelle Hurst is their scientist and analyst, whom Jason often accuses of loving nothing in the world except her computer. Although there is strong loyalty amongst the trio, there is also a lot of competition, especially between Annabelle and Jason, who seldom agree on any theory and are continually trying to show each other up by solving cases using their preferred methods. The head of Department S is Sir Curtis Seretse.
