In a small grade school, one class has a unique way of learning about the world with their teacher, Ms. Frizzle. To illustrate the science concepts they discuss, they always take a field trip on the Magic School Bus, a magic vehicle that can go anywhere and be anything as the class explores space, the arctic, the human body, and more in order to have a firsthand experience of the principles of science.

The straight-laced Prof. Utonium's attempt to create perfect little girls accidentally includes "Chemical X", resulting in take-charge red-head Blossom, blonde sweety-pie Bubbles and ready-to-fight brunette Buttercup. Chris and Martin Kratt meet their friend Zoboomafoo (a talking Sifaka Lemur from Madagascar) at the Animal Junction, a place where various other animals like to come and hang out. Together they introduce young viewers to the animal world through songs, video clips, and several forms of animation. 'Zoboo' also tells stories about his imaginary world of 'Zobooland', and a little girl named Jackie and the "Animal Helpers" provide short reports on ways people interact with animals. Through education, this upbeat show encourages kids to "Make an animal friend today!"

The show revolves around life on a cul-de-sac, focusing on three friends who have nearly identical names: Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Ed is the strongest of the three and the least intelligent, Edd is the smartest and the most socially accepted among others in the cul-de-sac, and Eddy is the de-facto leader of the group and is the meanest of the group. Throughout the show, the trio create numerous scams in order to make money to earn jawbreakers. They also have to deal with numerous misadventures, such as being ostracized from other kids in the cul-de-sac, as well as avoiding the Kanker sisters, who live in a nearby trailer and whom the Eds and the cul-de-sac as a whole despise.

Bespectacled aardvark Arthur Read demonstrates to kids how to deal with such childhood traumas and challenges as homework, teachers and bullies. He also has to contend with his sisters, but loves playing with his friends: tomboy Francine, foodie and best pal Buster, super smart Brain, rich girl Muffy and geography expert Sue Ellen.

To a kid, every weekend is precious, so each time the final bell rings Friday afternoon, Tino, Tish, Carver, and Lor try to make the most out of the short freedom they have. Tino Tonitini, the show's narrator, is an average sarcastic kid with a good heart and isn't afraid to tell his Mom about his life (actually she usually tricks him into telling her). Tish Katsufrakus comes from an old world family and loves art, music, and all the things her friends find dull. Carver is the athletic one with a shoe fetish. Finally, Lor McQuarrie is the tom-boy. Together, they play pool, eat pizza, and be kids in every sense of the word.
