He started by creating the instrumental version of a song that would eventually become Without Walls (from their self-titled debut album). He then found five other members and together they recorded a well-received demo album entitled Path of Reality. In late 2007, they signed a contract with Redhouse Finland Music Publishing, after which they released a four-song EP. They then released their self-titled debut album in 2008. The following year, their second album, Ego Anthem, was released, along with a single entitled In Your Name. The new album was supported with a tour across Europe with several famous Finnish metal bands, including Ensiferum and Stratovarius. After the tour, singer Antti Lappalainen left the band for personal reasons. The band later found Niko Kalliojärvi, former singer of the technical death metal band Amoral, as their new vocalist. Dark Tranquillity was formed in 1989 by current vocalist and then-guitarist Mikael Stanne, and guitarist Niklas Sundin, under the name Septic Broiler. Three additional members, Anders Fridén, Anders Jivarp and Martin Henriksson, later joined the line-up.
In 1990, the band recorded a demo entitled Enfeebled Earth before changing their name to Dark Tranquillity, which featured a largely thrash metal-influenced style of death metal, comparable to early Death. After releasing another demo entitled Rehearsal December 1990, the band changed its name to Dark Tranquillity, and released multiple demos, including Trail of Life Decayed in 1991 and A Moonclad Reflection in 1992, which both showed a progression into the more melodic nuances of death metal that the band would explore on their later studio releases.

Hypocrisy is a Swedish death metal band formed in October 1991 in Ludvika by Peter Tägtgren.
After spending three years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1990, founder Peter Tägtgren returned to his homeland of Sweden, to form his own band. Hypocrisy's early releases were noted as being well-executed death metal, but panned for not being particularly innovative. That criticism waned as the band matured, cultivating a more distinctive sound as well as employing an introspective lyrical approach. Later releases have a more atmospheric sound, with lyrical exploration of aliens and abduction experiences.
Tägtgren's experience as a producer may also have led to the band's change in musical direction, as he is more closely involved with many other bands while producing their albums.
