A video store clerk stumbles onto an alien plot to take over Earth by brain-washing people with a bad '50s science fiction movie. He and his friend must find a way to stop the aliens before the tapes can be distributed worldwide.

This film was Peter Bogdanovich's homage to musical comedies of the 1930s. A millionaire named Michael Oliver Pritchard III and a singer named Kitty O'Kelly meet and fall in love. Meanwhile, an indigent woman named Brooke Carter and an Italian gambler named Johnny Spanish meet and fall in love. All four people meet each other and become friends (actually, Kitty and Brooke had been friends since high-school), and soon, Brooke's crude, fun-loving maid Elizabeth falls in love with Michael's valet Rodney James. Later on, Michael and Brooke fall in love, and Kitty and Johnny decide to follow them around. In order to make Brooke and Michael jealous, they try to look like they are falling in love as well. Eventually, Michael and Johnny get into a fight but then immediately make up. Soon, Brooke and Kitty make up. The two couples pair off successfully and they live happily ever after.

Three best friends get together and bury a box, making a pact to open it at midnight at their high school graduation. In the small town in Georgia that they live in, things soon change. One is little miss perfect, one is an engaged prom queen, and the other is a pregnant outcast. On the night of their graduation, they open the box and they strike up a conversation. Suddenly, one brings up the topic of her going to Los Angeles for a record contract audition. They all decide to go together and they leave. With a little money, they set out on the road with a guy named Ben. When one of them tells the other a rumor that he might be a homicidal maniac, they are all scared of him. When they reach Los Angeles, Lucy (Britney Spears) falls in love with Ben and against her father's wishes, she stays and she goes to the audition.

Erin Grant loses care and custody of her daughter when she's divorced from her husband Darrell, a small-time thief. Struggling for money, she is a dancer at a nightclub, where one night Congressman Dilbeck (in disguise) attacks another member of the audience. A spectator, who recognizes Dilbeck and is fond of Erin, offers to get back her daughter by blackmailing Dilbeck. Things do not work out as planned, though.

Bill Mitchell is the philandering and distant President of the United States. Dave Kovic is a sweet-natured and caring Temp Agency operator, who by a staggering coincidence looks exactly like the President. As such, when Mitchell wants to escape an official luncheon, the Secret Service hires Dave to stand in for him. Unfortunately, Mitchell suffers a severe stroke whilst having sex with one of his aides, and Dave finds himself stuck in the role indefinitely. The corrupt and manipulative Chief of Staff, Bob Alexander, plans to use Dave to elevate himself to the White House - but unfortunately, he doesn't count on Dave enjoying himself in office, using his luck to make the country a better place, and falling in love with the beautiful First Lady...

Having just turned thirty-eight, Angeleno Roger Cobb is at a crossroads in his life. From a humble background, he is competent at his job as a lawyer at Burton Schuyler's prestigious firm, but is unsatisfied working on behalf of rich people and the problems of the one percent. Although he would rather eke out a life as a musician if he could, he would be more satisfied as a lawyer if he made partner and got better cases. While Roger always bringing his dog Bix to the office does not instill much confidence for Burton in Roger as partner material, Roger seriously dating Burton's daughter, Peggy Schuyler, may give him a path to partner, especially if he and Peggy get married. In the latest of those unsatisfying work tasks, he is asked by extremely wealthy client, single Edwina Cutwater, to make a change to her will. Edwina, a selfish middle aged woman who has never done a nice thing in her life, has always been sickly, and as such has not really enjoyed what life she has had despite her wealth. On her deathbed, Edwina now wants to deed her entire estate to Terry Hoskins, the beautiful adult daughter of her stableman, Fred Hoskins. The reason: Edwina plans to use the services of Tibetan swami Prahka Lasa to transfer her soul into Terry's body, Terry, in putting her wild past behind her, agreeing for her own soul to float into the ethers. In being in Terry's healthy body, Edwina, after her own body has given out, wants to enjoy what her money has not been able to buy for herself. Little does Edwina know that even if Terry did believe in the the swami's powers, Terry has no intention of giving up her body to Edwina, Terry planning to live the high life with Edwina's money after Edwina's death. Even after Edwina does die, she and Roger become more connected in body and soul, they, while needing to adjust to their time together, may get a better perspective of their respective lives.

A young thief, played by Ed Westwick cases an architectural dream house in Malibu, not realizing it is the home of an eccentric female serial killer, played by Louise Linton. Catherine Black runs a successful hedge fund in Los Angeles. She is also a fashion-obsessed serial killer with a penchant for champagne, cocaine, excessive exercise, sex, expensive shoes, and indescribable violence. On the weekends she retreats from her penthouse office in a skyscraper downtown to her glass and steel architectural dream house in Malibu. On this particular weekend, she lures a young thief (Ed Westwick) to her home. After falling passionately in love with her, he discovers her true nature.

Calvin is a genius novelist who begins to type a new novel on his manual typewriter about Ruby, his dream girl. He can't believe his eyes, because the next day, Ruby becomes a real person, and they begin to have a beautiful relationship together. If the relationship isn't perfect, all Calvin has to do is simply type the words on the page and Ruby's actions change to what he needs.
