After years of declining birth rates that has forced the human race to cede more and more territory to beings known as "Fairies," only a handful of humans remain among what's left over from human civilization while the rest of the world is dominated by these new highly intelligent creatures. However, despite humanity's diminishing importance, our young unnamed heroine (aka 'I' or 'Watashi') decides to take over her grandfather's position as a mediator between the races. She expected it to be an effortless job, but it turns out that it is nowhere near as straightforward as she had imagined, much to her dismay. Nevertheless, she will persist by maintaining good relations with the fairies while putting up with their strange, and sometimes irritating, habits.

The five members of the Cultural Research Club - Taichi Yaegashi, Iori Nagase, Himeko Inaba, Yui Kiriyama, and Yoshifumi Aoki - encounter a bizarre phenomenon one day when Aoki and Yui switch bodies without warning. Little did he know, that this is only the beginning of a terrifying journey through countries, buried secrets and the dark depths of the human psyche...

"Love Live Sunshine" is set in another school, the ocean-side Uranohoshi Girls' Academy, which is passing by the same peril as Otonokizaka Academy used to, until Chika Takami decides to follow their example and gathers friends to form another group called "Aqours" for the sake of their school as well.

Honoka Kosaka is a girl who loves her school, Otonokizaka Academy. When the school is planned to be closed down due to a lack of applicants, Honoka becomes determined to save it. Learning that school idols are popular, Honoka and her friends start up a school idol group called "u's" (pronounced muse) in order to attract new students. Once they successfully prevent Otonokizaka Academy from closing, the girls from u's aim for higher grounds and participate in "Love Live", the ultimate school idol competition featuring the best groups in the country.

What's more shocking is that she discovers that ten years later, Kakeru will no longer be with them. Future Naho asks her to watch over him closely.

Seika High School, once an all-boys school notorious for its wild students and for generally being a terrifying place for girls, has recently become a co-ed school.
