Do Butlers Burgle Banks? features the hitherto fortunate owner of Bond's Bank, who finds himself in a spot of trouble so that he wants someone to burgle the bank before the trustees inspect it. Fortunately for him, Horace Appleby, currently posing as his butler, is on hand to oblige. For Horace is, in fact, not a butler at all but the best sort of gangster, prudently concealing himself in an English country house while hiding from his rivals. Looking for peace and safety, Horace is to discover before long that the hotspots of Chicago are a whole lot more restful than the English countryside. This is the lightest of light comedies, a Wodehousean souffle from his later years.

Uneasy Money is a standalone romantic comedy novel from P.G. Wodehouse, which can be regarded as one among his best works with his signature humor and twisted plots. Written in 1916 this is one of those self-containing titles from Wodehouse, which is not part of any of his usual series of narratives with recurring characters. By utilizing his usual charming way of narrative and his knack in creating loveable characters to the maximum, Wodehouse creates a warm romantic novel, brimming with romance and hilarious adventure.The plot revolves around William FitzWilliam Delamere Chalmers, Lord Dawlish or "Bill", a simple, decent young man with a fascination for golf and who is financially on unstable grounds. He has a heart of gold with not much care for money but his fiancée Claire, who accepted his proposal captivated by his title and thinking of him as rich, is not entirely satisfied with his state of affairs. In an unexpected twist of fate Bill inherits a million pounds from an American millionaire with whom he had a brief acquaintance during a game of golf. He also learns that the millionaire has left nothing of value to his niece and nephew. Ever being the pure hearted gentleman, Bill becomes morally uncomfortable over this and he travels to America to share half of the inheritance with the niece and nephew of the millionaire. What follows is a potpourri of comical situations, complex misunderstandings, sub-plots, budding of new romantic relationships and hilarious intertwining of paths between characters typical of Wodehouse narrations which pits Bill, Claire (who is also in America on some errands), Elizabeth Boyd (the niece) and her brother into incredibly funny plots set in the rural backdrops of Long Island. Uneasy Money is a clean romantic comedy, which is easy to read and with enough dosage of humor and romance. This is a perfect candidate for lightweight reading and Wodehouse with his pleasant and hilarious narration of a story will make you forget everything around you.In 1918 a black and white silent movie adaptation was made with the same name starring Taylor Holmes as Lord Dawlish.

What ho?! A smashing early Wodehouse? Topping!I thought I'd sworn off early Wodehouse works. The one's I've read so far have been blah. Just drippy romances with the lightest of comedy touches. Nothing worth wasting time on. However, I grabbed this one on audiobook because I saw that it was narrated by Jonathan Cecil, who does a corking good job with the English toff voice. As far as voicing the upperclass English twit, Cecil's top of his class!Money for Nothing follows a common Wodehouse template of love combined with caper. Hijinks always ensue! Perhaps another reason I enjoyed this one so much was that it reminds me so very much of a typical Jeeves &amp; Wooster book. The characters and setting have an old shoe familiarity. In fact some of these characters are recurring:The action is mostly set at Rudge Hall, home to miser Lester Carmody, and at Healthward Ho, a health farm run by "Chimp" Twist, along with his cohorts "Soapy" and "Dolly" Molloy, who all previously appeared in Sam the Sudden (1925), and returned in Money in the Bank (1946). Hugo Carmody, Lester's nephew, and his friend Ronnie Fish also appear at Blandings Castle, home of Ronnie's uncle Lord Emsworth, in Summer Lightning (1929) and Heavy Weather (1933). - WikipediaThe main point is, I knew just who was who, even though they were all technically new to me. When you're looking for a reliable laugh, the same old same old isn't always a bad thing. And this book ain't a bad thing!

One thing that constantly disrupts the peace of life at Blandings is the constant incursion of impostors. Blandings has impostors like other houses have mice. Now there are two of them – both intent on a dangerous enterprise. Lord Emsworth’s secretary, the efficient Baxter, is on the alert and determined to discover what is afoot – despite the distractions caused by the Honorable Freddie Threepwood’s hapless affair of the heart.

The fall brings four more antic novels from comic genius, P. G. Wodehouse. In Picadilly Jim (soon to be a major motion picture), Jimmy Crocker has a scandalous reputation on both sides of the Atlantic and must do an about-face to win back the woman of his dreams. Uneasy Money sees the hard-up Lord Dawlish off to America to make a fortune, while in Cocktail Time events turn on the fate of a filmscript. Spring Fever is a light-hearted comedy involving love and various complications.

Blandings Castle is dysfunction junction, the home of a chaotic family struggling to keep itself in order. Based on the Dame Agatha Christie novel, our favorite Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot (Sir Peter Ustinov), is on a cruise up the Nile. He is surrounded by an interesting assortment of characters, including a wealthy heiress and her husband, on their honeymoon. It appears that everyone hates the heiress.

Miss Jane Marple (Dame Margaret Rutherford) investigates the murder of one of her fellow trustees of a fund which rehabilitates young criminals. To investigate she goes aboard the ship used to train the juveniles, much to the distress of Captain Sydney De Courcy Rhumstone (Lionel Jeffries). She soon stumbles onto more murders, and a ring of thieves.

The sinister Dr Watt has an evil scheme going. He's kidnapping beautiful young women and turning them into mannequins to sell to local stores. Fortunately for Dr Watt, Detective-Sergeant Bung is on the case, and he doesn't have a clue! In this send up of the Hammer Horror movies, there are send-ups of all the horror greats from Frankenstein to Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde.
