Detective Inspector Henry Crabbe, an intelligent, sensible, and mild-mannered man, would like nothing better than to retire from the police force and devote his time and energy to the restaurant that he wants to open. However, Assistant Chief Constable Fisher won't allow this to happen because this would expose his own stupidity and ineptitude to the unwelcome attention of his superiors. So, after a botched operation to try to catch a notorious criminal, Fisher devises a scheme that incriminates Henry, and, until he can solve this invidious dilemma, he must continue to serve at his boss's calling, whenever the need arises.

Comedy about the staff of a northern English factory. Bren (Victoria Wood), a kindly woman, tries to help everyone with their problems, while attempting to ignore her drunken mother who lives in a fantasy world where she hobnobs with the rich and famous. Her boss Tony (Andrew Dunn) likes to make out that he's an ultra-laddish sexist pervert, although it's all just a cover for being too shy to ask Bren out. The older members of the team, Dolly (Thelma Barlow) and Jean (Anne Reid), live only for the not-so-subtle bitching war they have with each other. Dolly is preoccupied with her weight, and Jean's fed up with her husband. Meanwhile, Twinkle (Maxine Peake), described sarcastically by Tony as "The Pixie With The Laughing Face" is always in a foul mood, and Anita (Shobna Gulati) simply hasn't a clue. Add in Stan (Duncan Preston) the handyman, who busies himself with "toaster emergencies" and "canine faces alerts" and Philippa (Celia Imrie), the neurotic human resources officer, and it's an unusual day when "any blooming work" gets done.

This show was a British television anthology drama series. It was produced by the BBC, and it was transmitted on BBC1 between 1970 and 1984. During this period, more than three hundred different episodes, featuring original television plays, and adaptations of stage plays and novels, were broadcast. Each episode was between fifty minutes and one hour and forty minutes in duration. Some of these plays, for example, Rumpole of the Bailey, subsequently became a television series.

James Herriot is a vet in Yorkshire, England, during the late 1930s and 1940's. He gets a job at the practice of Siegfried Farnon, who (together with his mischievous brother Tristan) already have a successful business. James undergoes a variety of adventures during his work, which are just as often caused by the characters of the county (including the Farnon brothers) as the animals in his care.

Martin Bryce (Richard Briers) is a committee man. He has numerous schemes and committees organized around the neighborhood. He is so obsessive about every detail of everything he does, he is driving his long-suffering wife, Anne (Dame Penelope Wilton), slowly crazy. Then the new neighbor Paul Ryman (Peter Egan) arrives. He has a more worldly outlook than those who live under Martin's organizational spell. There is an immediate clash of personalities because Martin treats everything so seriously, but to Paul, life is for enjoying and not to be taken so seriously.

Both twins are competing for the affections of their attractive neighbour Abigail (Campbell). The Flowers family and their often self-inflicted crises are surrounded by odd neighbours - agents of further headaches and heartache.

Sally "Sal" Vine (Sue Johnston) is a popular nurse living in a small Devon village who has never been tempted to join the local Women's Institute, despite having been asked on numerous occasions. David Tennant and Michael Sheen (playing themselves) were due to star in a production of 'Six Characters in Search of an Author' in the West End. The pandemic has put paid to that, but their director (Simon Evans - also playing himself) is determined not to let the opportunity pass him by. He knows how big a chance this is for him and turns his attention to cajoling his stars into rehearsing over the internet. All they need to do is read the first scene, but throughout the series they come up against a multitude of oppositional forces: distraction, boredom, home-schooling and their own egos.
