Chris Lambert (born March 28, 1988) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and podcaster. In 2019, Lambert launched a true-crime podcast documentary series about the disappearance of Kristin Smart, which helped lead to arrests and ultimately a conviction in the 25-year-old case.

Elizabeth Anne Holmes is an American former biotechnology entrepreneur and convicted fraudster. She is the founder and former CEO of Theranos, a defunct health technology company. It soared in valuation after the company claimed to have revolutionized blood testing by developing methods that could use surprisingly small volumes of blood, such as from a fingerprick. By 2015, Forbes had named Holmes the youngest and wealthiest self-made female billionaire in the United States on the basis of a $9-billion valuation of her company. In the following year, as revelations of potential fraud about Theranos's claims began to surface, Forbes revised its estimate of Holmes's net worth to zero, and Fortune named her in its feature article on "The World's 19 Most Disappointing Leaders".

The Vanished is a weekly podcast that focuses on the stories and circumstances of missing people, hosted by Marissa Jones. Most episodes feature interviews with the friends and family of the missing person, and sometimes the local law enforcement.

Tara Faye Grinstead (born November 14, 1974) was an American high school history teacher from Ocilla, Georgia, who went missing on October 22, 2005, and was declared dead in 2010.

On February 23, 2017, a press conference was held by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) formally announcing that a tip had been received that led to the arrest of Ryan Alexander Duke for Grinstead's murder and concealment. On March 3, 2017, an additional arrest was made public in connection with Grinstead's disappearance when Duke's former classmate Bo Dukes (no familial relation) was charged with attempting to conceal a death, hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.

Grinstead was born November 14, 1974, in Hawkinsville, Georgia to Bill and Faye (nee Bennett) Grinstead. She had one sibling, Anita Grinstead. A native of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Grinstead won the title of Miss Tifton in 1999 and competed in the Miss Georgia beauty pageant. Her winnings from this pageant and many others that she had entered helped her pay for college. Grinstead graduated from Middle Georgia College in Cochran and in 2003 earned a master's degree in education at Valdosta State University. In 1998, she began teaching history at Irwin County High School in Ocilla.

She ultimately entered an Alford plea before charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action could go to trial.

Led by online gaming entrepreneur Darren McNamara, Anatomy of Murder was the result of over 13 years of extensive R&D. McNamara faced considerable resistance from the entertainment industry regarding the format, the production values, and for spending too much money. In addition, he received feedback from a network that they wanted to be involved in commissioning a series from the ground up rather than being shown a finished pilot they didn't order. He chose to go ahead and create the game because he felt it showed how much he believed in the concept more than a "4 page glossy". He originally received few knockbacks from TV executives In 2013, so he instead went outside the box and approached audiences directly.

The Dropout is an American podcast hosted by Rebecca Jarvis that follows the story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. It was produced by ABC News, Taylor Dunn, Victoria Thompson, and Rebecca Jarvis. Following the podcast, a two-hour 20/20 episode premiered in March 2019, following the popularity of the podcast, and was nominated for a news Emmy Award in the Outstanding Feature Story in a Newsmagazine category. The podcast has been adapted to a limited series of the same name starring Oscar-nominee Amanda Seyfried as Holmes. Jarvis, Dunn, and Thompson served as executive producers along with showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether.

Holmes was indicted in June 2018 on 11 counts of felony fraud. The podcast interviews former employees, investors, and patients and includes portions of deposition tapes.
