An Orchestra of Minorities is a 2019 novel by Chigozie Obioma. It is his second novel after his debut, The Fishermen. It is a modern twist of the Odyssey and Igbo cosmology. The novel's narrator is a deceased spirit chi or Qi.It was shortlisted for the 2019 Man Booker Prize.The Orchestra of Minorities is set in Umuahia, Nigeria and partly in Northern Cyprus. It follows Chinonso, a hardly surviving poultry farmer who stops a woman from committing suicide. The night changes all their lives, especially Ndali, the woman who does not commit the intended action after much consternation and persuasion by Chinonso.They invariably fall in love after a long and frustrating courting period from the day they met. The protagonist, Chinonso ends up selling all his belongings to pursue higher education abroad to impress, Ndali's parents.

The Silence of the Girls is a 2018 novel by English novelist Pat Barker. It recounts the events of the Iliad, chiefly from the point of view of Briseis.The plot begins when Greeks led Achilles sack Lyrnessus, describing the looting and burning of the city, the massacre of its men and the abduction of its women including Briseis, the childless wife of its king Mynes. When the women are handed out to the leaders of the Greek raiders, Briseis, as a royal (and according to the Iliad, beautiful) is awarded to Achilles.The plot then becomes that of the Iliad, covering the dispute between Achilles and Agamemnon over Chryseis which results in Achilles yielding Briseis to Agamemnon, Achilles' subsequent refusal to join the fighting, then the deaths of Patroclus, Hector, and finally Achilles. An American Marriage is a novel by American author Tayari Jones. It is her fourth novel and was published by Algonquin Books on February 6, 2018. In February 2018, it was chosen for Oprah's Book Club 2.0. The novel also won the 2019 Women's Prize for Fiction.The novel focuses on the marriage of a middle-class African-American couple, Roy and Celestial, who live in Atlanta and whose lives are torn apart when Roy is wrongfully convicted of a rape he did not commit.In an interview with The Paris Review Jones revealed that she initially wrote the book solely from Celestial's point of view and decided to add multiple points of view after her initial readers reacted negatively to Celestial.

Lost Children Archive is a 2019 novel by writer Valeria Luiselli. Luiselli was in part inspired by the ongoing American policy of separating children from their parents at the Mexican-American border. The novel is the first book Luiselli wrote in English.The novel won the 2020 Rathbones Folio Prize. It was also longlisted for the 2019 Booker Prize and the 2019 Women's Prize for Fiction.The novel details a cross-country journey from New York to Arizona in a car by a husband and wife, Mama and Papa, and their children, "the girl" and "the boy," both from previous relationships. The novel incorporates fragments from the poetry of other poets, including from poems by Anne Carson, Galway Kinnell, and Augusto Monterroso. The novel's climax, "Echo Canyon", consists of a single sentence that runs for 20 pages. The novel ends with 24 Polaroid photos provided by Luiselli, credited to the novel's fictional stepson.
