That's a completely nostalgic four stars of course. Has there been a writer whose reputation has plummeted quite so much between the 70s and now as jolly Jack and his tales of merry misogynism? I know where each of them are to this day, but we don't see each other. The choices multiplied and it became no longer easy to tell black from white.  Back then we built a whole galaxy of heroes up from wild trips to the art house cinema to quarry Bergman or Pasolini from the granite cliffs of existentialism, or raids on libraries and second hand bookshops when we got to hear first about Kerouac and Kesey, not to mention Tolkien and Mervyn Peake, not to mention Emily Dickinson and Captain Beefheart and folk music and Alan Lomax and Alan Watts and John Fahey and Buffy Sainte-Marie. In those days every discovery hit like an express train and every bookshelf held high explosives. Life is not lived at that intensity for too many years. So forgive me for my four stars for Kerouac, the old bum, the old broke down disgraced beat with his typing not writing and every other reviewer on this site liking to put the boot in, and justified too, really, they're not good books - would I recommed any young person with any marbles to read nearly the whole of Kerouac's pile of typing as I myself did? NO!! Read almost anything BUT Kerouac! But my half damp eyes are staring back to that room. It was on Willow Road in Carlton. You can find it on Google Earth but some other people live there now.

Book One is apparently volumes 1 &amp; 2, but even though I've already read and reviewed the first one, I still ended up reading most* of it again as a refresher. *In other words, I skimmed the first few pages, realized I'd forgotten all of the plot details, and started reading in earnest immediately.Stop judging me, Rick!Since I'm somewhat late to The Walking Dead phenomenon (Kelly has theorized that I'm some sort of ALIEN goddess from the stars), I'm going to try not to spoil anything for the other people from my planet. Planet Anne! I like the sound of that! It can be a safe haven for all the sad little geriatric aliens in the multiverse. Why do you people wanna screw with me like this?I've only recently mastered the art of LOLing properly!For years, I thought it was some odd sound people made when they laughed. Yes. Really. I mean, I have an obnoxious laugh, so I just assumed others did as well...Whatever, I can now LOL at things just like the kids!Unfortunately, I still can't Twit, and I have no idea how to Tumble. Baby steps, baby steps...Um, ok. What was my original point? Crap. No idea.Oh, yes! The Walking Dead!  Now, I've mentioned this before, but I simply LOVE that the zombies in this series are of the shuffle-shuffle variety, and not the zoom-zoom class. You have to be totally surprised by one of these suckers in order for it to get it's undead jaws on you. All that's required of these characters to survive is to avoid dark alleys, creepy basements, thickly wooded areas, and nutters who keep pet zombies in their barns hoarder-style. I firmly believe that if the Zombie Apocalypse happens, and these are what I'm faced with, I could speed-walk my way to safety. Me + Snazzy Shorts = Escaping Like A Boss!The point is ( there really is a point this time!), the real monsters in The Walking Dead aren't the zombies. The surviving humans are far more monstrous than any of the rotting corpses. You would think that if humanity was on the brink of extinction, we'd all band together like extras in a Coca Cola commercial, right? Ok. So if this moon god took the time to keep your sorry ass from dying, there must have been a reason. He must have expected you to do something important, and given you special abilities to go with your new lease on life, right?Well, as far as I can tell, the only thing Khonshu gave you was a trio of imaginary friends.Or maybe you already had that *cough* ability.I'm not sure how I feel about this title. In all fairness, it didn't suck. I guess I just expected...more?Especially after reading Jeff, 'kris, and Mike's reviews.Also, every time I talked to Jeff, he was like, "Hulk loves Bendis' Moon Knight! Hulkity, Hulkity, Hulk. Hulk. Hulk. Moon Knight yummy! Hulkity, Hulk, Hulk.".Swear to God, that's what he sounds like.*gak* KIDDING! *gak*My point is fuck you! I have a point! that I can see why nobody knows who this guy is, but I'm also going into volume two with hope that Bendis can make me care about this whack-a-doodle.I mean, there were moments in this where I was so into it that I was sure I was going to love it and then the love just slid through my fingers like all of the unrealized dreams from my youth. Plus, there were plenty of chuckles along the way. So. Definitely not a total loss, or a garbage comic.But something was missing for me. At the end of it, I felt too much of a disconnect with the characters for it to be a true winner.Much like Marc Spector, I'm a bit conflicted. 

This direction for the Avengers was the result of a discussion between Bendis and Mark Millar about the possibility of the Avengers title being like the then popular alt-universe The Ultimates (read: good, not sucky). So it was out with bringing back a teen-aged Tony Stark to fight an evil, crazy older Tony and other hackish plots and in with more nuanced, character driven, snappy dialogue heavy storylines.So what’s on the agenda?Blowing sh*t up and killing off a few Avengers!Didn’t there used to be a mansion here?Yay! And happy 500th issue team!The story starts off normally – Avengers dudes sit around discussing which villainess they’d do the deed with.And Barton, you are a pig. Madame Hydra!?! I’m thinking Titania (really big, buxom, reminds of my first girlfriend) or The Enchantress (enchanting) or maybe that bald-headed space chick…Then stuff gets weird. Tony Stark addressing the UN seems like he’s on the ultimate bender.Dead Avengers pay the Avengers Mansion a visit.And then the proverbial crap hits the fan. Seemingly, all at once.She Hulk goes on a rampage…Hey, it’s Ultron……and family.The Kree pay a visit…We don’t need no stinkin’ Vision. Though he’s only been Spider-Man for a New York minute, Miles Morales’ secret is already out – his uncle Aaron knows that he’s the new webslinger! But the unmasking and secret-identity-reveals doesn’t stop there as Miles discovers his uncle Aaron is the super-thief, the Prowler! The question is: what will shady Uncle Prowler do with this valuable intel…? Brian Bendis serves up a great sequel with Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, Volume 2. My one critique is a familiar one for Bendis: the story’s pacing is damn near glacial! Aside from Prowler finding out Spider-Man’s secret identity, nowt much else happens in this book. Miles gets to grips with his new powers and the rest of the cast is introduced from the big bad to supporting characters like Captain Quaid of the NYPD. Bendis gives way too much space to what is basically just table-setting. That said, it’s undeniably well-written, even entertaining at times (though the obligatory villain fights were predictably monotonous – Omega Red? The Ringer?? Yawn), so I didn’t mind all the wheel-spinning too much. And this book has a stunning line-up of A-list artistic talent: joining Sara Pichelli are Chris Samnee and David Marquez. It’s a helluva good-looking comic – very slick, very shiny, as you’d expect for a top tier character like this. The second Miles Morales Spidey book was a bit slow for my taste but I still enjoyed it a lot for the most part – Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man continues to be an impressively accomplished title.

I knew about Marvel’s Daredevil. I have read a crossover with The Magdalena. I had watched that mediocre movie, but until I watched that TV masterpiece made on Netflix, it was when I really got to know about Daredevil and his inner world inside of the Marvel Universe.People say that Marvel lacks of Batman to be complete. Well, that people are wrong. Marvel doesn’t need Batman, Marvel has Daredevil and that’s plenty enough.Matt Murdock suffered an accident, when he was a kid, with a truck with chemicals, saving the life of a walking blind man. He got blind himself, but those chemicals did something on his body and now all his other senses are enhanced to superhuman levels. He studied laws and now he protects Hell’s Kitchen during the day as a lawyer and on night as the vigilante known as “Daredevil”.\

This TPB, Daredevil: The Man Without Fear, tells the origin of Matt Murdock. From his childhood before the fateful accident, his relationship with his dad, how got to be trained in fighting arts, his first encounters with crutial people to his own life like “Foggy” Nelson and Elektra Natchios, and his first mission against Kingpin’s operations.Matt Murdock has a very special gift and the potential to become something formidable, but he will find out that he always have to be in control, because a miscalculation in a movement while fighting and he will have a too heavy burden for the rest of his life.He is not perfect, he is not a holy crusader, he is not a saint. Hell’s Kitchen doesn’t need a saint, it needs a devil... a Daredevil. Matt only wants to protect innocent people in all possible ways, with the law on his side as advocate, and against the law as vigilante. He doesn’t like bullies. Bullies must pay...and they will pay... HARD.\

The story is solid, but there were some things that I found kinda odd.First, Matt when he was a kid, some schoolmates put him a nickname... “Daredevil”.... and he hated it.Okay, first, being called “Daredevil” is not that bad, in fact I can’t find it bad at all, so I don’t understand why he was so pissed about it. He must be grateful to have such lame bullies on his school that the best “insult” that they’d think of was calling him “Daredevil”. Also, he returns to Hell’s Kitchen as adult, so I think that it’s must be quite likely that some of those bullies are still around (now as adults too) in the neighborhood. So, taking as your “battle name” the same nickname that you had as a kid is kinda dumb since some of those men can guess who is under the mask. In other topic, the Kingpin is briefly introduced killing his predecessor in the mob, and the scene indicates that he was some kind of assistant until that moment, but later is mentioned that he “trained” an assassin, but that’s kinda odd, being able to be “training” his own enforcers if he was still a shadowy assistant not long ago yet.I know that Elektra is really important in Matt’s life but her presence in the story lacks to justify the invested pages on her. If you aren’t previously aware of her importance, you could easily wondering what was the deal of having her in the book.And certainly, taking in account that that’s an origin’s story, it was a disappointment that Matt’s mother was presented so briefly and without exposing any details about her. I am sure that her own story must be quite good.Besides all that, definitely this is a great story, well written, with good artwork and a must-be reading to any Daredevil fan and/or anybody interested to know in detail about the comic book character.

During a secretive business trip away, Mark learns that his wife Anna is growing restless in what he believed was their happy marriage. Caught in the middle is their infant son Bob, who Mark uses as a gage to Anna's mental state. Anna states that her want for the divorce is not because of another man, but Mark finds out that Anna has a lover named Heinrich. In the meantime, Mark also meets Bob's teacher Helen, who looks exactly like Anna, but is her polar opposite in temperament. Starting a relationship with Helen lessens his obsession with Anna. But as Mark and Anna's encounters together reach more emotional and violent levels, Mark, with help of a private investigative firm, learns that Anna's love life is not all that it appears. Anna's true obsession has a somewhat gruesome process and nothing will stop her from reaching her end goal.

The younger boy makes friends with two other boys who claim to be vampire hunters while the older boy is drawn into the gang of bikers by a beautiful girl. The older boy starts sleeping days and staying out all night while the younger boy starts getting into trouble because of his friends' obsession.

In 1930s Italy, a carefree Jewish waiter named Guido starts a fairy tale life by courting and marrying a lovely woman from a nearby city. Guido and his wife have a son and live happily together until the occupation of Italy by German forces. In an attempt to hold his family together and help his son survive the horrors of a Jewish Concentration Camp, Guido imagines that the Holocaust is a game and that the grand prize for winning is a tank.

USA in the 1970s. We follow the highly intelligent Jack over a span of 12 years and are introduced to the murders that define Jack's development as a serial killer. We experience the story from Jack's point of view, while he postulates each murder is an artwork in itself. As the inevitable police intervention is drawing nearer, he is taking greater and greater risks in his attempt to create the ultimate artwork. Along the way we experience Jack's descriptions of his personal condition, problems and thoughts through a recurring conversation with the unknown Verge - a grotesque mixture of sophistry mixed with an almost childlike self-pity and psychopathic explanations. The House That Jack Built is a dark and sinister story, yet presented through a philosophical and occasional humorous tale.

84 years later, a 100 year-old woman named Rose DeWitt Bukater tells the story to her granddaughter Lizzy Calvert, Brock Lovett, Lewis Bodine, Bobby Buell and Anatoly Mikailavich on the Keldysh about her life set in April 10th 1912, on a ship called Titanic when young Rose boards the departing ship with the upper-class passengers and her mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, and her fiancé, Caledon Hockley. Meanwhile, a drifter and artist named Jack Dawson and his best friend Fabrizio De Rossi win third-class tickets to the ship in a game. And she explains the whole story from departure until the death of Titanic on its first and last voyage April 15th, 1912 at 2:20 in the morning.

McMurphy has a criminal past and has once again gotten himself into trouble and is sentenced by the court. To escape labor duties in prison, McMurphy pleads insanity and is sent to a ward for the mentally unstable. Once here, McMurphy both endures and stands witness to the abuse and degradation of the oppressive Nurse Ratched, who gains superiority and power through the flaws of the other inmates. McMurphy and the other inmates band together to make a rebellious stance against the atrocious Nurse.

Lester's infatuation with Angela gives him a reenergized view on life, where he openly doesn't care anymore what anyone thinks about what he does, anyone except Angela. This infatuation coincides with the Fittses moving in next door: homophobic disciplinarian US Marine Colonel Frank Fitts who rules the house with a military fist (that fist being both figurative and literal), his semi-comatose wife Barbara Fitts, and their bright and quietly subversive 18-year-old son Ricky Fitts, who openly abides by his father's rules while behind the scenes lives by his own quite different perspective. Much like Lester's infatuation, Ricky immediately becomes infatuated with Jane; he considers girls like Angela as ordinary. The entry of Angela and the Fittses into the Burnhams' lives ultimately leads to each of the players confronting what is truly in his or her heart.

Although initially reluctant to do it because of the difficulty, Theo is able to grant Julian this favor, however with the change that he now needs to accompany Kee on her journey. As Theo and Kee progress on that journey, Theo learns more and more about what's going on, including the reason that Kee needs to get to the coast, the fact that no one in the group knows if their end destination even exists, and that his and Kee's lives are in greater danger than he believed when they started the journey. But Theo's sole mission becomes to help Kee at any cost for the survival of the species.

It's so ingrained in my head at this point, that I always check books that I'm considering reading, and even tell my friends to go ahead and spoil the ending for me. Because if the main character dies, I feel like need to know beforehand. Although I have to say, I'm much better at handling my emotions nowadays.Thank you, thank you... I said all that to explain why, despite the glowing reviews, I put off reading Requiem. He dies! I mean, forget about the blurb, it's right there in the fuckin' title!Hang on...Hey. I said I was better, not cured.Anyway, I'm sure (if you've hung in here this long) you want to hear if I thought this book was worth the destruction to my esophagus.Yes. Yes, yes, yes. By all means, go out and get this one, especially if you're a fan of the Silver Surfer.Fantastic story (no pun intended), and beautiful artwork!Straczynski (Did I spell that right? Christ, I hate that guy's last name!) did Marvel's iconic cosmic hero justice in Requiem. It's a four part story that starts with Reed Richards giving him the news that his body is degenerating, and ends with a send-off fit for a true hero.OhMyGodTheFeels! It's the story of a man who has made his peace with death and then sets out to say goodbye. Of course, since it's Silver Surfer, he ends up giving hope to the world and making new friends along the way. He also manages to stop an interplanetary war on his way home, say goodbye to the love of his life, and make peace with a world-eater.You know you've made a positive impact on the universe if Galactus get all misty-eyed when you die &amp; then promises not to ever eat your planet. If you haven't read this, I'd definitely recommend you try to remedy that situation. It's a beautiful story full of hope and love.Ride on, Silver Surfer!
