If you take a look at the cover of this book, Clive Cussler's name is clearly the focus of the page, but the words inside are, for the most part, certainly not his words. I know the recent trend of some authors is to allow their names to be used as a launch pad for young and upcoming writers (a la Craig Dirgo) but the Golden Buddha is a great example of why this practice is destined to fail. When I pick up a Cussler novel, I want a Cussler plot: action-packed, detailed, and over the top. And while this wasn't the worst book I have ever read, I don't want this. Golden Buddha was confusing because of the quick changes in the POV in each chapter and the vast array of characters for whom I didn't really care about. Especially Chairman Cabrillo or his crew. In an attempt to come off as modern day Robin Hoods, Cabrillo instead comes off as an uncaring mercenary with few if any ethics. Unlike Dirk Pitt who loathes killing his adversaries (the mark of a true hero) Cabrillo et al pick off their opponents haphazardly and without remorse. He drugs unsuspecting and innocent guests at a party, and supports the violent retaking of Tibet in the name of the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama of all people. If you want to read a good Cussler novel, don't pick up this volume of the Oregon Files.

Paranoid Brigadier General Jack D. After disposing of a familiar looking face, Bond is sent to recover a communication device, known as an A.T.A.C., which went down with a British spy ship as it sunk. Bond must hurry though, as the Russians are also out for this device. On his travels, he also meets Melina Havelock, whose parents were brutally murdered. Bond also encounters Aristotle Kristatos and Milos Colombo. Each of them are accusing the other of having links with with the Russians. Bond must team up with Melina, solve who the true ally is, and find the A.T.A.C. before it's too late.

A rerun of many of the gags from the television series Police Squad! (1982). An Airplane! (1980)-type spoof, this time with the an incompetent Lieutenant Frank Drebin, who always "gets his man". Visual gags come thick and fast, and it's impossible to catch them all with one viewing. The plot: Queen Elizabeth II of England is coming to town, and Vincent Ludwig has plans to assassinate her using a brainwashed baseball player.

Jake Russell, the friendly police chief in town so small initially worries about mysterious outsider heiress Cassandra 'Cassie' Nightingale, who moved into the house held to be haunted by the 'grey lady', and opens a strange gift shop full with attributes of occultism, soon causing the rumor she's a wicked witch. After Cassie kindly helps his brave son Brandon (and his sissy sister Lori) with a dog, bully Kyle -abused by his own poor dad- and their own fears, Jake soon makes friends with her, even romantically interested. Yet the 'chief' is professionally obliged to handle a flood of complaints and harassment started by the mayor's haughty wife, her busy bodies-bunch, and teenage brats. Finally Derek Sanders, Jakes's only deputy, hits on Cassie's hidden background.

Stella leaves New York to head a crime lab in New Orleans and is replaced by Detective Jo Danville (Sela Ward). Jo is a former FBI criminalist and an experienced psychological profiler. She and Mac quickly form a strong friendship and an even stronger working rapport. Jo is still haunted by her ousting from the FBI after blowing the whistle on improper lab procedure, so she works to regain her professional reputation.
