Ram (Kamal Haasan) is a playboy pilot. His marriage to Mythili (Simran) disintegrates after a series of misunderstandings. To cheer him up, his buddies arrange for a steamy evening with a prostitute Maggie (Ramya Krishnan), but things go wrong and the men are stuck with a dead body and a load of diamonds. The corpse disappears, and Ram's efforts to cover up the event are thwarted by a pesky father-in-law of one of the friends (Nagesh) who thinks Maggie was Ram's wife.

The take on death penalty told through the story of a temperamental villager caught in between two village clans. Told through an offbeat screenplay inspired by Korosawa's Rashomon, the film narrates two versions of the same incidents. 'Virumaandi' is exhibition of filmmaking & culture of the land it depicts at its very best.

Circa the British rule in India, a man named Senapathy decides to rebel against the British in a violent way, learns a rare martial art that enables him to kill with his bare hands, and travels to Singapore, joins the Indian Liberation Army formed by renowned Subhash Chandra Bose, is one of the soldier's to engage the British into war. He subsequently joins a death squad in order to destroy British tanks. While all of the others succeed in carrying out their mission, Senapathy is captured, jailed, beaten, and mercilessly tortured by the British. Upon his release, he is looked after by a woman named Namrata, whose honor he had saved from the British - who had captured two truckloads of women protesters, burned their clothing, and forced them to commit suicide. Namrata and Senapathy marry, India gains independence, and they soon have two children - Chandrabose and Kasthoori. Years later Chandra quarrels with his honest and straight-laced father, leaves home, so that he can earn enough money to bribe the transport secretary to get him a job as a Transport Officer. Tragedy strikes the family when Kasthoori is grievously hurt in a house-fire. They get her to the nearest hospital - but the doctor wants them to file a police report or pay him Rs.500/-; At the police station - the Inspector wants Rs.250/- or a report from the Village Administration Officer; who in turn wants Rs.150/- so that he can start preparations for the report. This delay results in Kasthoori's death - and a vengeful Senapathy decides to teach corrupt officials a lesson - a lesson that will serve to remind other corrupt officials to do their work diligently without accepting any bribes. What Senapathy does not know is that his very son Chandra is now part of this system - and he must now make up his mind to make an exception or carry on his gruesome task - knowing fully well that the Central Bureau of Investigation is hot on his tail.

Ramanaa is a professor at National College. But he is also the head of an Anti Corruption Force, that aims to eliminate corruption from society. Members of the force kidnap the 15 most corrupt employees from every government department and then kill the most corrupt among them. While this gradually succeeds in lessening corruption in all departments, the police is left scratching their heads about the details of the group.

The film starts in a court where the divorce case was going and Janaki(Meena) was fighting for divorce from Pandian(Kamal) as she feels that she could continue her marriage life as she was not able to come to terms with living in a small house with no amenities and also Kamal is not able to spend much of the time with her as he runs a Dance school and also a choreographer in film industry. Finally Meena wins the case as the court agrees to give divorce. According to this verdict Pandian can meet her daughter Bharathi every Friday and that too in a public Place. So Pandian meets her daughter every Friday in a temple. But Bharathi wants to live with her father rather than mother. After some days Pandian sees and advertisement in a newspaper that Vishwanathan Iyer was in search of a servant maid who can also takes care of his granddaughter. After seeing this advertisement she calls him and speaks in a lady voice and when Vishwanathan Iyer asks for her name he first struggles and later he sees the street name as Avvai Shanmugan Street and says his name as Avvai Shanmugi. Then he goes to Nagesh and asks for his help. Nagesh accepted his offer for 20,000 rupees and he assured him that he could change him as old lady with the help of his Make up techniques. For this Pandian sells his bike and gives the money to him but still there is a shortage of money. Finally Pandian becomes Avvai Shanmugi and he goes for the interview in a Ladies bus, but Nagesh says that he make up stays only for 5 hours. Then he (Pandian as Avvai Shanmugi) goes to the house for the interview, where he finds that interview was already over and they asked all theothers to leave. During that time Bharathi, Pandian's daughter, meets with an accdient due fire as she was burning crackers and seeing this Pandian saves her. Watching these activities of Pandian,Vishwanathan Iyer immediately appoints Avvai Shanmugi. There Avvai Shanmugi was recognized by Bharathi and she finds and says that it was not Shanmugi but his father. Then lot of activities takes place there and Avvai Shanmugi and his daughter finds and shows Vishwanathan Iyer the different types of theft going on in the house with the help of Senthurama Iyer and the cook. As Avvai Shanumi resembles the wife of Vishwanathan Iyer, Vishwanathan Iyer(Gemini Ganesh) falls in love with Avvai Shanmugi and to escape from this situation Avvai Shanmugi says that she was already married and her husband left her to Kasi. To find the truth Sethuraman Iyer follows her and he gets caught with Muthaliyar(Manivannan), who was also in love with Avvai Shanmugi. Seeing this he beats Sethuraman Iyer and by this time Avvai Shanmugi now comes as Pandian and he rescues Sethuraman Iyer and says to mudhaliar that Sethuraman Iyer was the husband of Avvai Shanmugi. Pandian says a different story to Sethuraman Iyer that Mudhaliyar was the husband of Avvai Shanmugi. Similary when all the members of Vishwanathan Iyer goes to a jwellery shop, Joseph comes there and he was asking money from Avvai Shanmigi. Watching this Vishwanathan Iyer questions Shanmugi who it was and she says thet it was her husband so she could escape from the situation. So Vishwanathan Iyer says that he will give money so that he should leave Avvai Shanmugi and Joseph who was money oriented accepts the offer and during this time Sethuraman Iyer comes in and says he isn't the husband but Mudhaliyar was the husband of Avvai Shanmugi, but Joseph somehow manages the situation. Nassar(Bhai) who was the friend of Pandian was working in a tea stall and seeing this Kamal says him to go and meet Avvai Shanmugi in Vishwanathan Iyer house and him to go as dumb and as a Brahmin. He also joins in the job but he was caught by sethuraman Iyer and they came to know thet he was a Muslim and he can also speak. However Avvai Shanmugi saves Bhai. At some point of time Avvai Shanmugi hints to Vishwanthan Iyer that Janaki's rightful place is by her husband, Pandian and Vishwananthan Iyer also realises this and tells Janaki that she has no place in his house. So this made Meena very angry and she attempts suicide, but Avvai Shanmugi(Pandian) stops her and finally reveals that he was Pandian who came as Avvai Shanmugi to Janaki's hous to look after his daughter.Finally Janaki and Pandian understand the mistake made by them and they live happily.

Vasool Raja- is in a rowdy gang, where they get money from people. When his parents are coming for a visit,he & his gang pretend they are running a hospital. Later Vasool's parents find out that they were cheated by their own son as pretending to be a doctor. Now Vasool must attend a medical school to earn his parent's trust back. Appu and Raja are twin brothers who were separated soon after their birth. Years later Appu, a dwarf, has become a circus clown and is loved by everyone while Raja is a car mechanic. When Appu's love is rejected as he is a dwarf he tries to commit suicide. His mother comforts him and reveals to him that while she was pregnant with her twins their father Sethupathy was killed by four criminals Francis, Dharmaraj, Nallasivam and Satyamoorthy and also poisoned her which is the reason he turned a dwarf. Appu now decides to take revenge against the criminals but his lost twin brother Raja is framed for his crimes by mistake.

The movie revolves around Dhuruvan (Jayam Ravi), who knows everything and anything about the forest. His travails while taking a bunch of college girls on a trekking to a jungle makes up the movie. Dhansika, Maha, Liasri, Saranya and Vasundhara are the batch of girls. The movie begins with the group of arrogant girls selected for trekking inside a forest as part of the NCC camp with Dhuruvan, who is a first generation graduate and a government employee from a tribal family. His superior Ganapathiram (Ponvannan), a forest ranger, often ridicules him and insults him referring to his community. Once Dhuruvan along with girls enter forest, everything changes. They get struck inside the jungle and come across a group of foreign ultras who come to hamper India's mission to launch a satellite in the orbit. The terrorists led by Anderson (Roland Kickenger) plans to take a strategic location in the forest and strike the satellite with a missile. Coming to know of their intensions, Dhuruvan along with the girls go hammer and tongs and hamper all their plans. They gel as a unit to put an end to the terrorists.

Karthi (Shiva), an engineering graduate with an attitude, is on the look out for a job. He does not seem to be much serious in seeking employment while his friends try their best to settle him. He spots Tamannah (Charu) in a bus stop and it is love at first sight. He finds her on a couple of occasions later and in fact misses an interview in her pursuit. Destiny seems to have something good waiting for him and he gets to spend the most beautiful phase of his life, giving her a ride in the car while waiting to pick the owner of the car at the railway station. Life takes an exciting turn from this point for Karthi who accepts to drop her in Mumbai and thus begins Paiyaa's journey of romance, action and emotions on a highway with a few turns, some with caution and some without.

Dhileepan and Shyama are Tamil-speaking residents of Mankulam, Sri Lanka, who get married with the blessings of their respective families. After the marriage, Shyama confides that she would like to be a mother of eight children, but she is stunned when her husband tells her that he cannot father any children until there is peace between the mainstream and the Tamils in this country. Nevertheless, they do get intimate, which results in Shyama getting pregnant. Dhileepan goes into hiding because of his connections with the Tamil Tigers, while Shyama returns to her father's house. A storm threatens their village, and they are forced to flee to a Refugee Camp in Rameswaram, India. Alone, without any support, Shyama gives birth to a girl, leaves her, and returns to Sri Lanka to be with her husband. The child gets noticed by noted Tamil author Thiruchelvan, who lives with his sister, her husband, and their son and writes books under the pen-name of Indra, who is actually an attractive TV newswoman who lives next door. When he comes forward to adopt her, he is initially refused, as he must be married in order to adopt any child. He accordingly gets married to Indra, and they adopt the child and name her Amudha. Subsequently, they become parents of two sons, Vinayan and Akhilan. After Amudha completes her ninth year, she is told that she has been adopted, which compels her to start searching for her biological mother. Amudha initially runs aways to Rameswaram, but she is unable to locate her and continues to be distraught until Thiruchelvan promises to take her to Mankulam. They do come across a woman named Shyama, but she denies having any children, and it is then that they find out that there is another Mankulam in the north of Sri Lanka. They travel there, among almost war-like conditions, and it is here that Thiruchelvan and his guide, Dr. Herold Vikramsinghe, will be abducted by Tamil Tigers, who, in turn, will arrange for a meeting with Shyama. Watch what happens when Amudha finally gets to meet her birth mother--who may outrightly disown her or induct her as one of the many child warriors among the Tamil Tigers.

Mathimaran (Sivakarthikeyan) is an honest constable who does not like the corruption, prevailing within the police force. At this point, there is a mysterious and thrilling twist to the tale, which pays credence to the adage, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
