Shailene Garnett is a film and television actress born in Montreal, Canada. She is known for her roles as Iris Beals in the CBC Television series Diggstown, and as Nomi Johnston in the television drama series Murdoch Mysteries.

Garnett was born in Montreal, Canada, to an American father and a Canada-Hungarian mother. Her paternal grandmother was an immigrant from Jamaica with paternal Lebanese and maternal Cuban ancestry. Her maternal grandparents were Hungarian immigrants with Serbian, Romanian and Mongolian ancestry.

Garnett was scouted by her first talent agent in 2009 while working as a kindergarten teacher's assistant in French language elementary school in a small town in Quebec.
