* * * Read and reviewed with my niece Emma * * *The very idea of reading this book had Emma racing to finish her math and grammar homework, so that we could get to reading time.It must have sounded like a promising read, I think because of her love/hate relationship with goblins. You see, we've built forts for heroes (us) and created dark blanket caves as a lair for goblins (usually pillows). We've then made valiant sorties from the fort into the goblin lair with our Dollar Store swords and armor to take back the plastic coins stolen from us by the goblins. These adventures are epic, frightening and exciting to my niece, who loves playing this game...provided I go first into the goblin lair. So here we have a wonderfully illustrated book about a touchstone subject in my young niece's life. Add to it that this particular brand of goblin likes to drain the color from rainbows so that they might drink the procured colorful liquid, and what you have is an entirely engrossing book for this particular 7-year-old reader. The story is solid. Seven goblins go on a quest for rainbow sustenance. How will the rainbow save itself from these evil doers? It may need a little help from its friends. The real attraction to this book are the fantastic illustrations!They're absolutely captivating! We spent more time looking at the pictures than reading the book. However, the whole package put together made for a terrific reading time experience for the both of us!

Matilda is a little girl who is far too good to be true. At age five-and-a-half she's knocking off double-digit multiplication problems and blitz-reading Dickens. Even more remarkably, her classmates love her even though she's a super-nerd and the teacher's pet. But everything is not perfect in Matilda's world. For starters she has two of the most idiotic, self-centered parents who ever lived. Then there's the large, busty nightmare of a school principal, Miss ("The") Trunchbull, a former hammer-throwing champion who flings children at will and is approximately as sympathetic as a bulldozer. Fortunately for Matilda, she has the inner resources to deal with such annoyances: astonishing intelligence, saintly patience, and an innate predilection for revenge.She warms up with some practical jokes aimed at her hapless parents, but the true test comes when she rallies in defense of her teacher, the sweet Miss Honey, against the diabolical Trunchbull. There is never any doubt that Matilda will carry the day. Even so, this wonderful story is far from predictable. Roald Dahl, while keeping the plot moving imaginatively, also has an unerring ear for emotional truth. The reader cares about Matilda because in addition to all her other gifts, she has real feelings.

I read the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules. I chose this book because it was the only Wimpy Kids I haven't read. This book is how an older brother picks on and makes his younger brothers life miserable, like most older brothers are to there younger siblings. The main characters are Greg, Rodrick, Manny, and Greg's best friend Rowley. Now Rodrick is like most older siblings he is there to pick on you but also there to help you when you need it the most. The best thing Rodrick did to Greg at the beginning of the book was when Greg woke up from an after school nape Rodrick told him he was going to be late for school and Greg forgot it was the first day school got let out for summer. The age for this book is for 10 to 16 because its about the ages in the book. The gender is for mostly guys because its from a guys point of view. I recommend this book to the middle school because it will help you threw middle school.

Never giving up hope, each day, the exhausted man attempts to make a new, sturdier, and more improved raft; nevertheless, the sea is vast with wonderful and mysterious creatures, and the island's only red turtle won't let the weary survivor escape that easily. Could this be the heartless enemy?

A movie studio is being torn down. TV interviewer Genya Tachibana has tracked down its most famous star, Chiyoko Fujiwara, who has been a recluse since she left acting some 30 years ago. Tachibana delivers a key to her, and it causes her to reflect on her career; as she's telling the story, Tachibana and his long-suffering cameraman are drawn in. The key was given to her as a teenager by a painter and revolutionary that she helped to escape the police. She becomes an actress because it will make it possible to track him down, and she spends the next several decades acting out that search in various genres and eras.

The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan's plunge into war. Jiro meets and falls in love with Nahoko, and grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo.

A Japanese couple stuck with part-time jobs and hence inadequate incomes avail themselves of the fruits of shoplifting to make ends meet. They are not alone in this behaviour. The younger and the older of the household are in on the act. The unusual routine is about to change from care-free and matter-of-fact to something more dramatic, however, as the couple open their doors to a beleaguered young girl. The reasons for the family's habit and their motivations come under the microscope.

THE FAREWELL PARTY is a compassionate dark comedy about friendship and knowing when to say goodbye. A privileged British family--mother, geologist father, adolescent daughter, small son--live in Sydney, Australia. While on a picnic one day, the sibling get stranded in the Outback by themselves, not knowing exactly where they are. They only have with them the clothes on their backs--their school uniforms--some meagre rations of nonperishable food, a battery-powered transistor radio, the son's satchel primarily containing his toys, and a small piece of cloth they used as their picnic cloth. While they walk through the Outback, they encounter an Australian boy who is on his walkabout, a rite of passage into manhood where he spends entire months on his own living off the land. Their largest problem is not being able to verbally communicate. The boy does help them to survive, but doesn't understand their need to return to civilization, which may or may not happen based on what the Australian boy ends up doing.

A 59 year old carpenter recovering from a heart attack befriends a single mother and her two kids as they navigate their way through the impersonal, Kafkaesque benefits system. With equal amounts of humor, warmth and despair, the journey is heartfelt and emotional until the end.

The curious, adventure-seeking, fourth grade group of 10 year old boys, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny, all join in in buffoonish adventures that sometimes evolve nothing. Sometimes something that was simple at the start, turns out to get out of control. Everything is odd in the small mountain town, South Park, and the boys always find something to do with it.

Eric Forman is a typical high school student growing up in Wisconsin in 1976 with his family and his friends. Together, they have the same kind of joys and sorrows that just about every teenager has while growing up. This show parodied many of the attitudes, events and fads of the 70s, along with those who grew up at the time.

Along the way, they fall through the Sea of Time, Sea of Nothing, Sea of Holes, and more. They meet Jeremy Hillary Boob Ph.D. (Dick Emery) and take him with them for the adventure. At Pepperland, The Beatles "rally the land to rebellion" and take down the Blue Meanies, the four-headed Meanie dog, and the Dreadful Flying Glove (with the songs "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "With A Little Help From My Friends", "Hey Bulldog", "All You Need is Love"). In the end, all four live-action Beatles sing "All Together Now".
