Olga Drenda zbiera artefakty czasu polskich przemian: fotografie, kolorowe magazyny i czasopisma ezoteryczne, kalendarze, reklamy, kasety wideo, okładki książek. Widać na nich przeobrażającą się rzeczywistość; współistnienie dwóch kulturowych i estetycznych porządków. Widać także marzenia i aspiracje Polaków, którzy za wszelką cenę pragną być nowocześni i „dogonić Zachód”. Obok barów mlecznych pojawiają się fastfoody, adidasy wypierają sofiksy, telewizja emituje pierwsze reklamy (prusakolep!), ludzie z wypiekami na twarzy uczestniczą w seansach spirytystycznych Kaszpirowskiego. Pisząc o tamtej rzeczywistości, autorka nie popada w nostalgię ani ironię. Z antropologiczną wrażliwością i wyczuciem analizuje to, co udało jej się zdokumentować. Rezultatem jest fascynujący zapis polskiej codzienności okresu transformacji – rzecz, którą najpierw czyta się z zapartym tchem, a potem trzeba przemyśleć.
