The Outsiders is about two weeks in the life of a 14-year-old boy. The novel tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The Ultimate Guide is a good book for Percy Jackson fans, but you can get a little bored of it. It's packed with information about Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and even monsters he fought! I liked that you could take a quiz about who your god parent would be, but I didn't like that the Ultimate Guide has a whole section about Percy's "background". It took up a lot of the book, and most of that information is in the first book. On the positive side, I really like the pictures in the book, and I like the section about all of the gods and goddesses. My favorite is the section about life at camp. There is a double page picturing Camp Half-Blood and on the next page, Percy's camp schedule. It's kind of cool to see what life at camp half blood would be like. It also has a great front cover. I saw it in the book store and was immediately drawn to the shiny holographic cover. It opens up with a magnetic clip thingy which also made it look cool. The Ultimate Guide is great if you are a Percy Jackson fan that wants to learn a little bit more about Percy Jackson and his life.
