I'm giving this five stars, not for how I might read it now, but for how I read it in sixth grade.Spencer? SWOON. Like, five-stars swoonerific. Be still my eleven-year-old heart. Seeing this book also makes me think I need to start laying off making fun of the Twilight tweens. As far as obsessive, co-dependent love goes, Stephanie Meyer's characters pale (hahaha, pun) in comparison. But seeing this book makes me realize that I did indeed find that terribly romantic when I was a tween, so I need to stop being so crotchety about these things. Plot is simple: moody, swoonerific bad-boy track star Spencer falls in love with shy, insecure, bookish Lauren. (SWOON) Spencer rescues Lauren from bullying classmates. (SWOON) Lauren rescues Spencer from his darker side. (SWOON) And they have sex. Lots and lots of sex. (TRIPLE SWOON) I think this might have been my first sex scene. Aw. If you don't count Flowers in the Attic. And honestly, no one should count Flowers in the Attic. I honestly can't say what it would be like reading this book as an adult. But I'm swooning just thinking about it. Did I mention there's sex???? *Update* Having now re-read this book for the first time since I was eleven, all I can think is WHAT kind of morose, twisted eleven year old was I to think this was romantic??? DEAR GOD. I'm standing by my rating, because I remembered it as a 5-star book, but dear God. DEAR GOD. Twilight looks positively healthy next to this.

Beautiful story. But quite upsetting.Realistic YA Fiction.Also a movie.The plot concerns a family, with two sisters, Cate and Joss. They are more then sisters but also best friends.One day, Joss, the younger sister is killed in a tragic accident., shattering the family and leaving all of them but Cate in particular lost in grief an d questioning everything, including her own belief system.This book is brutally beautiful. I saw an other reviewer wrote that it "haunted her" and I feel the same way. It doesn't read lightly.But it is a deeply moving, superbly told story of love, loss and family that I think has and will resonate with readers. Four strong stars..

The conflict Brooke/Amy feels in this book is very, very well done.Everyone in her new family is telling her how terrible her father, who abducted her at the age of five, is. Yet Brooke (she still does not yet think of hereself as Amy, her real name, yet)has lived with him for eleven years. He was not terrible to her. Barely able to recall her mother---her father told Brooke she was dead--Hal Donovan is the parent she knew and loved.Now, at the stressful teen age of 16 years, she is thrust into a brand new family situation. Her mother is overprotective; her 11 year old stepsister resents her.From page 59 : her father"...I was scared and I ran and I hurt you. I never wanted to hurt you and I did." Brooke: "You didn't--you loved me". Her Father "Oh Brooke, you can love someone and hurt them anyway......"I really like the way Pfeffer shows the good and bad sides of all the characters. The father is not portrayed as truly evil--and he is not, btw; Brooke's real family is not presented as all good.You read about these things in real life and you think "how wonderful" for the parents who have now find their child. This book shows that even in a situation like this, there would be a difficult time of adjustment.Written for teens, but I am 59 and I thought is was great. Recommended for anyone who wants a good story with lots to say about family relationships.

But Lennie's daydreams lead him into a real situation that could cost him his life—and suddenly he is in trouble more terrifying and dangerous than anything he has ever seen on TV. Byars infuses the story with her special magic. Lennie is a likable, funny, moving, and always entertaining character. Publishers Weekly

This is a good story. It is also a speck preachy... or more than a speck. At the same time, it is a great message. Sugar has made an addict of me and I hate feeling so out of control with it. Junk food is too much around us and I always want it. So, the story has a true message, a good message. The candy does look so colorful and it made me want junk food.There is a little bit of body shaming in this one, but this is an 80s mindset. This feels more like a Jan Berenstain idea.The kids like these books and they have fun with them. They thought it was a great book and it made them want candy also. Funny, how simply seeing drawings of candy make you crave candy.

Once again, the Berenstain Bears jump in to help the child understand life. Personally, this is one my favorite books in the series because it tackles something that every child can understand, but that few explain even half so well. While there is an awful lot of backstory in this book to explain the dream - at the same time, I'm kind of glad the author took their time to explain the origins of the dreams, so that the child can see clearly that there are definite reasons for the dreams that plague us at night. I love the explanation at the end, and how everything resolves. I love that even Brother is shown as having bad dreams sometimes, as small children tend to think they're the only ones who get scared by such things. Overall, I like this book a lot. This is definitely one to read with your child.

This book has a total of three stories. The Three Bears, The Little Red Hen, and The Gingerbread Man. These stories would be great for English language learners, because there are many text to illustration connections. The students can use the illustrations to figure out what is in the text that might at first be unfamiliar to the student. The stories teach the reader a lesson in all three. Lesson one is not to make your self too comfrotable, lesson two is to not expect to be able to enjoy something that you refused to help with, and the third lesson is to be careful who you trust. These three stories teach very valuable lessons that any student could walk away with and become a better thinker.

This may have been my favorite book in the Berenstain Bears series as a kid. I’m not sure why, but the detailed pictures helped as always I know; it seemed like every time I read the book there was some corner of the pages that I had not discovered before. Another aspect that may have helped and may be a reason you might want to pick it up is the content. If you have any young kids that are nervous about staying home with a sitter for the first few times, or just with a new sitter, this book may calm their nerves a bit. I was always glad to see the cover with Mrs. Grizzle on it, my girls like this book very much, and hopefully yours will enjoy it too. As always I highly recommend this book and the series as a whole, and hope you will check it out.

The Berenstain Bears return in, “The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Vacation.” As the book begins Papa Bear has a fantastic idea, or so it seems, to go to a cabin in the woods and live off the land. The events that unfold illustrate how awful this idea really was. From bad stew to sleepless nights, the Berenstain bears have an awful time. However, this experience turns out not to be so bad. After the bears return home they are able to look back on their horrible vacation and all the memories they made together and laugh. This book is awesome! If a child is unable to read they can look at the pictures and almost read the book without the words and understand what is going on. This book would be good for children ages five to seven. I would use this book to help children keep their head up when they have had a bad day.

Considering school is in session, and the rampant bullying epidemic that “seems” to be sweeping through our country’s youth, this appeared appropriate timing. The Berenstains do a great job of depicting how cruel being left out, picked on and made fun of can be. They address this in a couple other books as well that I hope to review at a later date. They also do a wonderful job, telling the story through the eyes of Sister Bear, of explaining one of the best ways to handle the situation. If you have a young kiddo who is struggling with bullying at school, this might be a good place to start both for you as the parent and your young one as the kid. It might also be a good book to read if you feel like your child might be the one bullying. At any rate I highly recommend both the series and this book in particular.

Popular animated series featuring Scooby-Doo, a Great Dane who joins four California high school students (Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy) on many quests to solve strange mysteries. Each mystery is current and unusual and involves the group stopping someone from wreaking certain havoc on the world. The gang were always driving in the Mystery Machine, returning from or going to a regular teenage function, when their van develops engine trouble or breaks down for a variety of reasons. Their (unintended) destination turns out to be suffering a monster problem, and the gang volunteers to investigate the case. Eventually, enough clues are found to convince the gang that the ghost or monster was a villain. Invariably, the ghost or monster was apprehended and revealed to be an apparently blameless authority figure or otherwise innocuous local who uses the disguise to cover up a crime or scam. After proclaiming "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!", the villain was then taken away to prison, and the gang was allowed to continue on their way to their destination.

As the show goes on, Jesse marries Rebecca Donaldson, Danny's talk-show co-host, and they have twin sons, Nicholas Katsopolis.
