She started writing stories about Gumnut babies and Gumblossom babies in 1916. Her most famous book about them, "Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, Their Adventure Wonderful" was written in 1918. They can easily be carried off by an owl, and live amongst the foliage of the bush, alongside other Nuts and Blossoms. All these little cherubs are cared for by by various wild animals, such as Mr. Blue-cap Wren, Mrs. Kookaburra, and the kindly Mr. Lizard, but are also in danger from characters such as the spotted cat, screaming Native Bears (koalas) or the greedy owl who think gumnut babies are little grubs. Other creatures they encounter will try to help, such as a lizard who has been captured by Mrs. Snake, and on being freed allows them to ride on his back. A kangaroo too is a helpful cabman on whom they can ride. A dog is a "monster", as is a human - potentially. But Snugglepot and Cuddlepie learn about humans when they watch one rescue a possum from a cruel trap. Mrs. Snake and Mrs. Ant are unknown quantities, acting as enemies protecting their young, when a gumnut baby inadvertently kills some of their babies, but neutral at other times. It is very much a young child's view of the world; experiences and lessons in trying to categorise "safe" and "unsafe", and the adventure of learning is what is described in these stories. It is a charming and fun way to learn such lessons, as well as gentle reminders about good manners, "In the Bush everyone is polite when they are asked to be." The names are all very much of their time; "Lilly Pilly", "Mrs. Busy Blossom", "Lanky Legs"  (a frog), The ultimate threat is there, in this case the "Banksia men" whom some Australian adults remember even today as giving them nightmares when they were little. The illustrations of the Banksia men are indeed scary for a young child. No cuteness here, just a hairy blob with a malevolent expression and long legs ending in clawed feet. These parts of the stories including the Banksia men are very akin to an imagined bogeyman. When we first meet one he is running away, carrying off a gumnut baby by the heels - a terrifying prospect. Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, although not generally known outside Australia, is arguably that country's best-loved children's book. Its reputation in Australia compares with that of "Peter Pan" or "The Water Babies" in the UK, and it has the feel of both of these classics. The length of the text, the complexity of the language, plus the style and attitude of the narrator, are all similar. Although set in the Australian Bush, the influences are heavily European, not Aboriginal.May Gibb died in Sydney in 1969, and the copyright from the designs and stories about all her Bush characters, plus the rest of her estate, were all left to three children's charities.

A few years ago I read my first Jane Austen, which was Pride and Prejudice, and I really enjoyed it.I thought Emma couldn't be that bad, it's a popular classic and its rating is good. To be honest, it's not bad, exactly, but the fact that it took me one whole month to get through it says a lot. I had lots and lots of problems with this novel.1. Emma Such a vain and arrogant main character. I mean, I know she is supposed to be an unlikeable character for literary reasons. But that doesn't make it any easier.2. Miss Bates Why bother wasting so much ink and paper on nonsense. Numerous pages of nonsense.3. They way people are Wait. Let me guess. That character is - wait for it - pleasant? The nicest person in the world? Of such sweet disposition? So generous, exceptional, kind, satisfactory and pleasant. Please save me.4. The way people talk Hours could go by and Emma and her father could talk about nothing but the pig they owned and had slaughtered, and what they'll make of it for dinner, and how nice it was that they gave some of it to the Bates, and if it was the right part of the pig they gave away, or if they should have given something else, but no it is all fine and pleasant, and that was very generous of them, and they will surely be very gracious, since they gave away such fine piece of pork, and won't dinner be nice and kick me on the shin pleasant.5. The novel is set during World War II, from 1942 to 1944. It mainly follows the life of Captain John Yossarian, a U.S. Army Air Forces B-25 bombardier. Most of the events in the book occur while the fictional 256th Squadron is based on the island of Pianosa, in the Mediterranean Sea, west of Italy. The novel looks into the experiences of Yossarian and the other airmen in the camp, who attempt to maintain their sanity while fulfilling their service requirements so that they may return home.

In the dystopian world of 2027 London, humans have been incapable of reproducing for 18 year for an unknown reason, meaning the imminent extinction of the species. Britain is the one remaining civilized society on the planet, which has resulted in people wanting to migrate there, so it has become a police state to handle the immigrants, who are placed into refugee camps. Although initially reluctant to do it because of the difficulty, Theo is able to grant Julian this favor, however with the change that he now needs to accompany Kee on her journey. As Theo and Kee progress on that journey, Theo learns more and more about what's going on, including the reason that Kee needs to get to the coast, the fact that no one in the group knows if their end destination even exists, and that his and Kee's lives are in greater danger than he believed when they started the journey. But Theo's sole mission becomes to help Kee at any cost for the survival of the species.

A case of mistaken identity results in unexpected romance when the most popular girl in high school and the biggest loser must come together to win over their crushes.

October 1944 in war torn Italy. Hana (Juliette Binoche), a French-Canadian nurse working in a mobile army medical unit, feels like everything she loves in life dies on her. Because of the difficulty traveling and the dangers, especially as the landscape is still heavily booby-trapped with mines, Hana volunteers to stay behind at a church to care solely for a dying semi-amnesiac patient, who is badly burned and disfigured. She agrees to catch up to the rest of the unit after he dies. All the patient remembers is that he is English, and that he is married. Their solitude is disrupted with the arrival at the church of fellow Canadian David Caravaggio (Willem Dafoe), part of the Intelligence Service, who is certain that he knows the patient as a man who cooperated with the Germans. Caravaggio believes that the patient's memory is largely intact, and that he is running away from his past, in part, or in its entirety. The patient does open up about his past, all surrounding his work as a cartographer in North Africa, which was interrupted by the war. He may not be running from his work as a spy for the Germans as Caravaggio believes, but rather the memory of an affair he had with married Katharine Clifton (Dame Kristin Scott Thomas), the love of his life, and the memory of a promise not totally fulfilled. Hana may also test her theory of her fates with love and death as she embarks on a relationship of her own with Kip Singh (Naveen Andrews), a Sikh from India, whose unit has camped on the now overgrown lawn of the church. Their work entails sweeping for and diffusing mines, the discovery of one such mine which had earlier saved her life.

Joe Gideon is a Broadway director, choreographer and filmmaker, he in the process of casting the chorus and staging the dance numbers for his latest Broadway show, starring his ex-wife Audrey Paris in what is largely a vanity project for her in playing a role several years younger than her real age, and editing a film he directed on the life of stand-up comic Davis Newman. Joe's professional and personal lives are intertwined, he a chronic philanderer, having slept with and had relationships with a series of dancers in his shows, Victoria Porter, who he hired for the current show despite she not being the best dancer, in the former category, and Kate Jagger, his current girlfriend, in the latter category. That philandering has led to relationship problems, with Audrey during their marriage, and potentially now with Kate who wants a committed relationship with Joe largely in not wanting the alternative of entering the dating world again. Joe also lives a hard and fast life, he chain smoking, drinking heavily, listening to hard driving classical music and popping uppers to keep going.
