Black Science is a creator-owned science fiction American comic book series by Rick Remender and Italian artist Matteo Scalera. Image Comics released the first issue in November 2013. The story follows Grant McKay, an ex-member of the Anarchist Order of Scientists, and his team and family as they are thrown through dimensions as they try to repair his dimensional device, "the Pillar", created by forbidden, unethical means - the eponymous "Black Science". Via the Pillar, McKay and his fellow "Dimensionauts" were able to leap between worlds to find technological and medical advances for their own, but a member of Grant's team sabotages the pillar, causing it to jump to random locations at random times in increasingly lethal and hostile dimensions, forcing the team to try and return to their own dimension before they are killed by numerous hazards, ranging from parasitic fungi, nihilistic dimensional conquerors, and alternate versions of themselves.

حتی نمی‌دونم از کجا باید شروع کنم راجع به این کتاب بنویسم. اول بگم که حتی نمی‌دونم به کدوم ادیشنِ کتاب باید امتیاز بدم. من مخلوطی از پنج ادیشن مختلف را خوندم: ای‌بوکِ ترجمه‌ از روسی به انگلیسی کنستانس گارنت، بعد آدیوبوک همین ترجمه با چاپی متفاوت، بعد چند فصلی آن وسط را از روی ترجمه روسی به فارسی مهری آهی خوندم، بعد از اون نسخه چاپی انگلیسی ترجمه پوی‌یر و والاخانسکی را خواندم، (خواندن این‌ها، حدود نصف بیشتر کتاب، نزدیک دو هفته وقت گرفت) و در نهایت نصفِ دوم کتاب را ظرف دو ساعت و نیم از روی ترجمه‌ی انگلیسی به فارسیِ احد عقیلیان، چاپ نشر مرکز خوندم. می‌دونم کار مسخره‌ای کردم، ولی به هرحال پیش اومد. از میان همه این ها ترجمه احد عقیلیان را خیلی دوست داشتم و سریع خوندم (طبعا چون به زبان مادریم بود)، ولی نثر و نوشتار ترجمه انگلیسی را بیشتر دوست داشتم (با این‌که کند پیش می‌رفت) و از بین اون‌ها هم ترجمه گارنت رو ترجیح دادم. ملموس‌تر بود. حالا برم سراغ خود کتاب. اولاً من اصلا کی باشم که بخوام به داستایفسکی نقد وارد کنم؟ اصلا از این مسئله که به کتاب پنج ندادم و چهار دادم خجالت می‌کشم. ولی چیکار کنم که لذتِ خوندنش برام پنج ستاره‌ی کامل نبود. خیلی سر خوندنش زجر کشیدم و بارها حوصله‌ام سر رفت و بار ها  چند صفحه رو روزنامه‌وار خوندم که به جاهای هیجان‌انگیز تر برسم. مدام منتظر بودم داستان طی یک سیر صعودی هیجان‌انگیز تر بشه؛ ولی نشد، و جذابیتش صرفا طی یک سیر سینوسی بالا پایین می‌رفت. شاید اشکال از منه که توی داستان همش به دنبال «کشش» و جذابیت می‌گردم. واقعا این ایراد بهم وارده. توی گودریدز چرخیدم و چندین و چند تا ریویو از این کتاب خوندم که همه بدون استثنا به نبوغ نویسنده و به شاهکار بودن این کتاب اشاره کردن. و بعد نشستم فکر کردم ببینم چرا من اونقدر حظ اعلا از این کتاب نبردم؟ انقدر من خنگم؟ و بی‌سواد؟ یعنی کتاب رو به طور کلی دوست داشتم، ولی واقعیت اینه که اون‌جوری که همه می‌گن به نظرم نبود! خیلی خوندم که می‌گن کتاب ما رو به اعماق تیره و تاریک ذهن راسکلنیکف می‌بره، ولی من رو که نبرد! درست، به افکارش برد، ولی جوری نبود که من کاملا مجذوب و غرق افکارش بشم. داستان برای من توی فضای بیرون می‌گذشت تا تو سرِ راسکلنیکف. شخصیت‌ها دیالوگ‌های طولانی می‌گفتن و من همش منتظر بودم راسکلنیکف تنها شه و به فکر فرو بره و من توی تار و پود افکارش گیر بیفتم و باز هم این طور نشد. نمی‌دونم. کمی از خودم ناامیدم که نتونستم اونجوری از کتاب لذت ببرم که ظاهرا هزاران نفر برده‌ن. حالا راجع به قسمت هایی که دوست داشتم:  قسمت‌های موش و گربه بازیِ بازرس پارفیری با راسکلنیکف حقیقتاً جزو جذاب‌ترین قسمت‌های داستان بودن. از بودن شخصیت‌های زن قوی و خوبی مثل دونیا و سونیا هم لذت بردم. از کل پروسه‌ی قتل، فرار کردنش از محل، خوابی که دید و صحنه‌ی مراسم ختم مارملادف هم لذت بردم. صرفا به طور کلی می‌تونم بگم اگه از حوصله سر رفتن های در طولِ خوندن بگذریم، از کل کتاب و فضاش و دیلماهاش لذت بردم. *اسپویلر در ادامه* اما بیشترین چیزی که نظرم رو نسبت به کتاب مثبت کرد، پایان بندیِ خوب و امیدوارانه و قشنگش بود. من همش انتظار داشتم راسکلنیکف رو بکشن. وقتی نکشتنش انتظار داشتم تو زندان دیوانه شه یا خودکشی کنه. ولی اون عشق و امیدی که ته داستان داشت، اون اطمینانی که داشت که این هفت سال می‌گذره و زندگیِ جدیدی بعدش شروع می‌شه، این که سونیا رو دوست داره و به امیدش زندگی می‌کنه، این که هنوز یه شانس دوباره، یه فرصتی وجود داره و زندگی به تهش نرسیده، این‌ها خیلی زیبا بود و باعث شد واقعا داستان رو دوست داشته باشم. الان به نظر خودم خیلی ریویوی سطحی ای نوشتم و حس می‌کنم اصلا عمق کتاب رو نفهمیدم. ولی چیکار می‌شه کرد دیگه!

Insidious. That's what this is. Like that packet of sweets that, once you've started... I don't know why, but it took me up to this book, which is book 5 in the series, to realize that there is virtually no character development as far as Gotrek is concerned. This makes perfect sense, since, though the story does not make use of a first person narrative, it is told from the viewpoint of the rememberer, Felix Jaeger. Gotrek remains an enigma. I can't remember ever getting a glimpse of what goes on inside his head. Felix, on the other hand, is another story. His metamorphosis from the almost effeminate poet in the first book to battle hardened warrior-poet (if you will) and heroic swordsman has been handled deftly and expertly over the continuation of the series. Beastslayer opens with the siege of Praag by the massive chaos army assembled under Arek Daemonclaw. This plot line is an overflow from book 4, Dragonslayer. The sense of brooding menace King instills in this installment is truly impressive. Overall there isn't all that much that sets this novel apart from its predecessors, but I really enjoyed reading it. It's just a cracking read, what. The story itself involves war between the chaos army, and the army of Kislev, with some subplots about treachery and other ditties to keep things juicy. Once again, the supporting characters are a treat. Snorri Nosebiter being one I especially enjoy. Be warned though: it is a rather grim and gory piece of work, although not especially more so than the rest of the series.Warhammer fans should leave with smiles plastered on their faces, wondering how their heads got shaven and tattooed.

Dragonslayer is the fourth epic instalment in the death-seeking saga of Gotrek and Felix. After the daring exploits in Daemonslayer, the fearless duo find themselves pursued by the insidious and ruthless skaven-lord, Grey Seer Thanquol. Drogonslayer sees the fearless Trollslayer and his sworn companion back aboard the arcane dwarf airship in search of a golden hoard - and its deadly guardian! Finally... I think Nathan Long "gets" the series at last. That or he's written enough for me to get used to his style. Either way, it was a tough transition from William King's original writing. The first couple by Long just didn't work for me for some reason. The characters weren't as enjoyable and the dialog seemed forced. And this was after I thoroughly enjoyed his "Black Hearts" series so I knew he could write (Please Mr. Long, don't forget about those guys... I'd love another book in that run). My only complaint with this one was the handling of the wizard Max. It had been several years (and novels) since he'd made an appearance, yet for some reason, he was fairly pathetic. His power was growing when we last saw him, yet in this book he seemed little changed. Teclis he's not, but still, I expected some fairly impressive spell casting by now. However, all we got were magic missiles and colored bolts. Other than this small complaint, the book was fast paced and filled with tons of carnage. As usual, the Slayer did what he does best... slew and slew some more. As usual, Felix tagged along for the ride and managed some good deeds as well. We got a few more hints dropped about that these two are “marked” for some dramatic battle (Like what they've done up to this point wasn't tough enough...) and are being kept alive through some magical means for a crazy climatic finish. I mean a greater daemon of Slaanesh bowed out of combat with Gotrek because something even more powerful had laid claim to the dwarf. How cool was that? What this great doom entails, I guess we'll have to wait and see. Not sure what's left for these two... Trolls, check, Giants, check, Dragons, check, Daemons, check, vampires, check, Orcs, check, Elves, check, Skaven, Check What is next? I'm trying to remember, but I don't think they've fought Lizardmen yet. It would be cool to see them head to Lustria to take on a some giant undead Slann... oh and for Sigmar's sake, please bring back Snorri Nosebiter.

I'm noticing a trend with Nathan Long's works. He seems to really like the idea of betrayal, be it from some character's own schemes, as in Manslayer, or due to some external influence, as in Orcslayer and Shamanslayer (and undoubtedly with the next book Zombieslayer). I wouldn't have an issue with this in theory, as it opens up interesting ideas to the setting, like Orcs that can coordinate effectively like a trained army, Beastmen that can use technology, etc, but Long doesn't seem to commit fully to the idea of having a puppetmaster pulling strings, and inevitably everything becomes zombies. This leads to his Gotrek and Felix books (aside from Elfslayer) feeling very samey, the pair start out for someplace in the Empire, get waylaid by old acquaintance with a problem, something isn't quite right or straightforward about said problem, problem gets solved, then zombies. That said, I do feel that he has improved with the character reunions since he took over the series from King. The unexpected bringing back of Kat was welcome, and giving Snorri Nosebiter a bigger problem than just being too good at fighting to die was a good call. Overall, I liked Shamanslayer for the character development, but felt the plot fell short.

Gotrek and Felix return in another action packed adventure. The darkness is gathering over the storm-wracked isle of Albion. Evil stalks the lands once more and the omens foretell the coming of a great evil.Transported onto the island through an ancient portal, Gotrek and Felix are compelled to fight the malignant evil that terrorises the populace before it can grow to threaten the whole world. With the aid of the mighty High Elf mage, Teclis, they must decipher and utilise the mysteries of the Old Ones. Only then can they hope to save the innocent and vanquish the dark evil.

I really wanted to like this book. I really did.Heinrich Kemmler and warlord Krell versus Felix and Gotrek, it sounds like the battle of the millenium. Sadly, the result, for me, falls just under average.This book starts right where we left our heroes in Shamanslayer, wounded and exhausted in the middle of a rising undead army. The setting is so desperate that quickly, we feel the author is taking shortcuts to justify the survival of the heroes. Of course, Felix and Gotrek can't die yet, but it felt to me like the author had a good idea for his setup, but couldn't execute it properly. Another concern for me was the lack of characterization of the villains. Kemmler is flat and devoid of any personality except the usual "Evil necromancer" gimmicks. Good thing then that is he is absent from most of the story. This book really made me realized how I missed William King's style, who knew when to switch to the bad guys perspective. As for Krell, he is nothing but the "muscles" of the book : He doesn't speak, he doesn't do anything of consequence, except show up to give Gotrek and Rodi something more menacing to fight than zombies.(SPOILERS AHEAD)What finally broke my will and made me wants to finish this book as quickly as possible was the anticlimatic ending : The last 30-40 pages introduces many new character who don't have time to be properly developed, and see the return of fan-favourite Max Schreiber. But more on him latter. Theses last pages feels like an epilogue, or a follow-up to the story, rather than a proper ending. Like "I have 50 more pages to fill, how the hell am I going to finish this ?"...So, yes, I also have a problem with Max being here. He doesn't add anything to the story. It feels like he's been thrown here as fan service, or to add a bit of excitement to a story that stopped short a few chapters ago. A random Gold wizard could have played the same role in the story, except for a few minor points.I could write about Kat's MORE THAN unlikely survival at the end, about how Snorri's character was demolished in two books, and how the feeling of sheer power was taken out of Gotrek's battle scenes, but i think I made my point about how I feel about this book.(SPOILER ENDS)If I had to mention something I liked, I must say Felix feels really heroic and competent as a leader and as a warrior in this book, far from his whiny persona from earlier entries in the serie.When i first began reading Nathan Long's run on F&amp;G, I felt like the criticism was not deserved. 5 books later, I am exhausted, disappointed and feels the need to write down my first goodreads review. Nathan Long is far from being a bad writer, but I don't think he handled the franchise as it should have been. Good thing then that "Kinslayer" takes place later enough to avoid following the current plotlines and unresolved issues.

Wandering around my used bookstore, I stumbled upon an old paperback from 2001. The garish title said "Vampireslayer" and I thought, for the sake of vampires everywhere, I should take a look at what it was about. To my surprise it was a Warhammer book. I was not expecting much. I was mistaken. This was a good vampire story.Taking place 200 years after the events of the Vampire Wars (Vlad, Konrad and Mannfred von Carstein's wars against humanity)- it is the story of one of the minor vampire players from that time period- Adolphus Kreiger. He shares the bloodline of the von Catstein stock.But since the heyday of the Vampire Counts, the lot of the vampire has fallen considerably. In deep hiding, they are believed an exterminated threat from the past. Only in Sylvania do the people still believe. With that being the background- a group of monster hunters, called Slayers, runs into Adolphus Kreiger. One of their members, Ulrika Magdova, is taken by the vampire. What follows is a grand adventure where Felix Jaeger, the mage Max Schreiber and the two dwarves Gotrek and Snori start an adventure to rescue their comrade and it turns into a huge crisis as Kreiger seeks to bring back the time of the Vampire Counts. He has managed to unearth an ancient amulet that belonged to Nagash the Necromancer.While not the most original of Warhammer tales and lacking the polish of the modern titles-it nonetheless entertained. I like vampires and the vampires in this story were quite good. The motivations and the feelings they displayed towards vampirism and humans was quite appropriate. The story was fun and the descriptions of the magic was quite interesting.A good vampire tale set in the Warhammer world. Any fan of the Vampire Count trilogy will enjoy this one as there are a lot of subtle references.

Warcraft: Orcs & Humansis a real-time strategy game (RTS) developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, and published by Interplay Productions in Europe. The first version, for MS-DOS, was released in North America on 23 November 1994 and the Classic Mac OS version followed in early 1996. The MS-DOS version was re-released by Sold-Out Software in 2002.AlthoughWarcraft: Orcs & Humanswas not the first RTS title to offer multiplayer games, Blizzard's game persuaded a wider audience that multiplayer capabilities were essential for future RTS games. The game introduced innovations in its mission design and gameplay elements, which were adopted by other RTS developers.Blizzard's main emphases inWarcraftgames were on: skillful management of relatively small forces, and on development of characterization and storyline within and between games played in the same fictional universe. Sales were fairly high, reviewers were mostly impressed, and the game won three awards, and was a finalist for three others. The game's sequel,Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, became the main rival to Westwood Studios'Command & Conquerseries, and this competition fostered an "RTS boom" in the mid– to late 1990s.

Mordheim is a tabletop game published by Games Workshop in 1999. It is a skirmish variant of the company's Warhammer Fantasy game but set on a warband or "skirmish" scale. Mordheim was designed by Alessio Cavatore, Tuomas Pirinen and Rick Priestley. Besides being a typical miniature skirmish game, Mordheim also features a campaign system. Warbands gain experience and equipment as the campaign progresses, in a similar nature to role-playing games.The game is set in the Empire city of Mordheim, from Imperial Year 1999, some 500 years before the present day in the Warhammer Fantasy time line. The game is set during a time of chaos and civil war in the Empire after a comet struck the city of Mordheim destroying it and scattering a material called wyrdstone throughout the ruins.
