Monster Hunter Freedom 2is a PlayStation Portable video game and sequel toMonster Hunter Freedom, it is largely based on its PlayStation 2 predecessorMonster Hunter 2,which was never released outside Japan.Monster Hunter Freedom 2is not a direct port ofMonster Hunter 2but instead a portable update of theMonster Hunterseries. New features have been added while others were removed to make the game appropriate for its portable platform. It was released in North America on August 28, 2007. Its Japanese counterpart is calledMonster Hunter Portable 2nd(モンスターハンターポータブル2nd,Monsutā Hantā Pōtaburu 2nd).

An expanded version of the game,Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, was released in North America on June 22, 2009.
