Written in his distinctively dazzling manner, Oscar Wilde’s story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is the author’s most popular work. The tale of Dorian Gray’s moral disintegration caused a scandal when it ﬁrst appeared in 1890, but though Wilde was attacked for the novel’s corrupting inﬂuence, he responded that there is, in fact, “a terrible moral in Dorian Gray.” Just a few years later, the book and the aesthetic/moral dilemma it presented became issues in the trials occasioned by Wilde’s homosexual liaisons, which resulted in his imprisonment. Of Dorian Gray’s relationship to autobiography, Wilde noted in a letter, “Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps.

Scottish-born American naturalist and author (1838-1914)

A great spinoff to read for fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It is written by a different author than the writer of the main series and so is technically noncanon; I really think of it as a professionally-written fanfiction. There were a few minor problems I found with the book but it's a quick read and well-handled "sequel" to Vento Aureo (Part 5 of the series).One big problem is with the characters. The book introduces too many and then expects the reader to recognize them by name after their initial appearance. The other major problem is how it deals with the continuity of the series. It doesn't exactly quite disagree with the canon of JoJo, but twists it in such a way that JJBA's author, Araki, clearly didn't intend it to be interpreted. The first one I can recall right now is how colony Stands deal with damage, but there are other examples. Also, the book does over-reference JoJo. It ties in WAY too much with the actual series. It's great how it connects with Part 5 but the references to Part 4 and Part 1 are far too forced.The book is still pretty good. The characters all have unique, complex motives and interactions, and characterization is handled VERY well. It also complements Vento Aureo seamlessly. We get to understand Fugo and the other characters way better through the writing in the book than if it was done in a visual format. Thanks to this, we get to find out more about why Fugo left the gang halfway through Part 5 and it makes his character development all the better. I love how his mental development culminates in the climax of the story as he finally understood why the gang gave up their lives to help Trish, and perfectly complements a more... physical evolution of his character in the climax as well. Speaking of Part 5, Giorno almost feels scary in this novel as it exposes him for who he really is, an outsider to Bruno's group who made Bruno his minion on his journey to infiltrating and taking down a corrupt organization, a soft-spoken, noble, pragmatic gentleman who feels like less of a real person and more of an all-powerful wise leader archetype.The book also does a great job of replicating the feel of JJBA. The stands are all unique and, well, bizarre, and the characters that have them are even more so. As a side note, the atmosphere of the novel is a lot more gloomy and heavy-hearted than JoJo, but it does preserve some of the original's weird humor. The climax feel as over-the-top and crazy as any JoJo finale.7.5/10, a good book to read if you're a fan of JJBA.

One night, 14-year-old Madoka Kaname has a terrible nightmare - against the backdrop of a devastated city, she witnesses a girl fight a losing battle against a dreadful being lingering above, while a cat-like magical creature tells Madoka the only way to change that tragic outcome is for her to make a contract with him and become a magical girl. At Grace Field House, life couldn't be better for the orphans. Though they have no parents, together with the other kids and a kind "Mama" who cares for them, they form one big, happy family. Their interactions, including their meeting, are laced with indirect sexual innuendo, most specifically on Hayley's part, although Jeff is clear also in an indirect manner that he does not have sex with minors. Regardless, Hayley is further able to convince Jeff to continue their face-to-face at his place. There, both Hayley and Jeff's true intentions come to light, their meeting which was no accident on either side, and the intentions which may be incompatible and have serious and deadly consequences.

Cher, a high school student in Beverly Hills, must survive the ups and downs of adolescent life. Her external demeanor at first seems superficial, but rather it hides her wit, charm, and intelligence which help her to deal with relationships, friends, family, school, and the all-important teenage social life.

In Tokyo, the freelance cameraman Takuyoshi Masuoka is obsessed investigating the fear sensation near death. When he photographs a man stabbing himself in the eye in the access to the subway, he seeks what the suicidal man might have seen to experiment the same sense of horror the man felt when he died. He finds a passage to the Tokyo underground where he meets a mysterious naked woman that does not speak, who he calls her F. He brings F to his place and he tries to feed her, until he discovers that she drinks blood. Masuika becomes a serial killer draining the blood of his victims to nurse F.

In Hong Kong, Aunt Mei is a cook famous for her home-made rejuvenation dumplings, based on a millenarian recipe prepared with a mysterious ingredient that she brings directly from China.
