before we start;a READERS ATTENTION!:Rick Riordan's series Order:first, Percy Jacksonthen  Heroes of Olympus at last, Trials of Apollo &amp; Magnus Chase is happening at the same time; they have crossovers sometimes.(or read in this order: Camp Half-Blood Chronicles)I warned everywhere I could, because I'm nervous you might read in wrong order &amp; you won't enjoy as much as you should.anyway...generally I love those fantasy stories happening in our world, they're apparently named low fantasy, but I call them: Fantasy in reality. (&amp; not just my favourite in books, but movies &amp; tv shows too)When fantasy elements bind in reality; we know a boring damn world (reality) &amp; then... magic came! or myths or travel between universes. I live in that world (as a reader lives a thousands of lives) &amp; I feel happy.also familiar sense in other way like I know places &amp; cities (I mean in almost all high fantasy stories I'm just confused with the strange names &amp; wondering where they were.)&amp; even heroes have been shocked when they actually entered their fantasy world. (so they know that world with me &amp; I can relate with their surprise, feelings, fears, etc)so it made very easy to believe they can be real, somewhere, somehow, in a corner of this world magic exists (Harry Potter), you can travel to parallel universes (Pendragon) or mythology lives among us. I love realistic fictions. when you can just simply imagine the story is actually happening somewhere in this world. U know what I mean?

For eons, conquering dungeons has been the most efficient way to become a strong adventurer. Although, not everything is as straightforward as it seems. Several questions have always plagued the mind of those that enter these mythical places of power: Why are there so many monsters? Where does the amazing weaponry and heavy gold coins come from? Why does the very air fill with life-giving energies?!  Cal has all of the answers to these age old questions, for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Heart, a soul forced against his will into a magical stone. After several lonely years, Cal was able to regain sentience, allowing him to form new memories while slowly growing a dungeon around himself. With help from a friend, Cal learned how to create monsters and traps, increasing his power and size quickly.  When a threat to his existence rears its head, Cal decides that he will do anything to stay alive and become stronger. Unfortunately for treasure-seekers, the fastest way for Cal to achieve his goal... is to eat anyone that enters his depths.

Powerful necromancers are on the move and Cal is caught in the crossfire. Without his faithful Wisp, Dani, Cal's mind slips and he begins creating traps and monsters that go against his already loose morals. After a direct threat from an unexpected force causes Cal's mind to stabilize, he throws all of his resources into keeping his thoughts clear while he funds searches for his lost companion. When others fail him again and again, Cal decides to take matters into his own hands.   For Dale, deadly reminders indicate that no matter how well he does in his small community, he is still considered a weakling in the greater world. Though he continues his physical and mental training, he decides to gain strength by any means necessary, including through politics, even if these decisions are killing him.

Guess I'm the only one who didn't love this book. For me, this book basically killed the series. First it destroys a bunch of established rules. Such as "essence" not being used up but being drawn back into the body after the cultivator used it. Now it's used up and people need to refill. It also ignores how essence was supposedly being "generated" rather than a constant. We see that in book two where the underground river he finds is concerned.All of this is a setup for the absolutely atrocious ending. One of the most cliche and personally most hated ones. (view spoiler)[It was earth all along! The magic just went away for a time because of Cal! (hide spoiler)]

Both Cal and Dale have become stronger, each in spite of the other.   The dungeon - Cal - knows exactly how much their strength has increased, and is working hard to become exponentially more powerful. His schemes are becoming more complex, and his dungeon - his body - more deadly.  Dale has a nasty surprise waiting for him as he works to thwart the plans of the devious dungeon. You see, he is hearing a voice in his head that tries to distract him in critical moments, and so must fight his mind as he fights deadly creatures.  Unbeknownst to both, they are in for the fight of their lives as madness threatens the land...
