A colorful lifeBoth books in this bundle were among my favorites. Not least, because I was travelling to the U. K. while reading both, and saw the areas of London and the countryside mentioned. I was saddened by Eddie, who was like a dear man I grow up with, a beautiful, sporty young man who almost lost his life in an accident, and was thereafter damaged and left out of many activities.The brilliant Indian woman, Usha, was also a revelation, a woman assured of her place in the universe and unafraid to touch people, whether well or unwell.All of the characters in Maisie's life have come full circle and now she must make the decision to travel abroad in an effort to amass the wisdom of her mentor, Maurice. Godspeed, Maisie, Godspeed.

Maisie Dobbs continues to draw me in -- especially as she becomes more accepting of her abilities and her limitations (altho they seem fairly few and far between). In this book Maisie is asked to look into the death of an American volunteer in the Great War. He died during the war but his body and those of his comrades have just recently been discovered in the early 30s when this book is set. As with the other books in this series Maisie's personal life is always tentative but perhaps that is looking up too. Her relationship with her mentor Maurice forms a large part of this story as well. Each book in this series leaves you ready to read the next volume.

This is the first book in the series and I reading it first. The book has two sections The first starts as Maisie is asked to find out what his wife is doing by a client. After she has the answer she is still bother by the case.The next section we learn about her life. At the age of 13 she is apprenticed as a kitchen maid. Maisie discovers the library and decides to get up an hour early in order to read them. This is a good description of the life of the middle-class.The last section Maisie patron asked her to investigate the Retreat that her son is planning on joining. The twists that story takes will hold your attention.This is was a library book and had only Maisie Dobbs.I can't find it listed on Goodreads
