Okkkkkkk.... I have no clue what I just read. Really, no clue. It was quite good, hence the 4 stars, but it was also oh so confusing and weird. Sex with a ghost/memory (though it was also beautiful and sad)? Drugging someone to have sex with them (whut)? No one caring that Utena suddenly has long hair all of the sudden. The duels. The way the story was told, it just jumped around a bit too much for me.The ending was good though, I am really happy as I was shipping this couple as well. It is a nice new story (I liked what the mangaka did to the normal Utena story and made it new), nice idea, but I feel that it could have been worked out better. I am not going to write a longer review as I have no clue what to write. :P

A good ending, but also not. So this is it? All that happened, all that pain, that big battle, and it ends with this? Will we ever know if x is still found? It was quite interesting that Touga remembered. I can understand Anthy, because well.... but that Touga remembers must truly mean he loved her. That he truly cared about her. That he truly was hoping for them to be together. Which is quite sweet (and yes, I was shipping them like crazy). The battle was wonderful though, quite exciting, not too long and not too short. It felt like the perfect length. It was a sad solution that brought the end to the battle, but it had to be done. I don't think there was any way for this to go differently. It was this or worse consequences.The side stories, we have two as the main story is only 60~ pages. The first one is about Juri. I don't quite like the girl, but we see a whole new side to her + some additions to the side we always see. It gave more depth, and I respected the girl a bit more. I didn't like Ruka the entire story until the end and the revelation there. Men, please, just tell your feelings honestly. :|The second side story was a bit confusing, suddenly there is someone with a black rose seal? A guy with a feeling of anger at never ageing, having to atone for what he has done. And I guess waiting for Utena to come by, just like so many other characters seemingly waited for Utena to show up. I feel this story should have been fleshed out a bit more, now it just came out of nowhere. The ending was OK, though it was quite sad. I would highly recommend this series to everyone. Even with the ending as it is, the story is engaging, the characters are great, the art is beautiful, and there is so much more that I loved.So this series ends. Tomorrow I got the Adolescence to read, kind of curious what they have done in that manga and what changes there are in that one.Review first posted at https://twirlingbookprincess.com/

For being listed as a classic, this manga is not what I'd call fine literature. At this point I'm mostly reading just to watch Utena kick the asses of all the creepy assholes surprise kissing her and/or physically abusing her friend Anshi. Wouldn't hurt to see all of the crazy misogynistic side characters dig their heads out of their asses and stop defending the borderline rapists straight-up stalking them, either. Seriously. This book makes me embarrassed to be a manga fan. I was all here for Utena throwing gender roles out the window and being the prince of her own story, but this bullshit is too much.

The last volume for today! I would love to just race through this series, but I know I will regret that. :P But this series is just too fabulous, too fun, too wonderful. In this one we find out a little more about the World's End (though I still want to know more, especially now THAT happened near the end of the volume), about Dios (who may just be Utena's prince o.0), about Anthy. Though I am only disliking Anthy more and more with each volume. I loved her in the first one, I was worried about her, I wanted her to have a good life, but with volume 2 and 3... eh. With what she did at the end of volume 3 especially I just wanted to shake her good and well and see if maybe that would bring some sense into her. But I am still curious about her as well. We meet yet another character and I didn't trust him from the start. The way he picked up Utena (in believe she was his sister).... no. Just no.I am also still going with the whole they are 15-17 and not 13-16 thing. Because there are some scenes in here which are just a bit too creepy if you take in account that Utena is 13 officially. I am still not sure what to think of Touga though. He seems to have no real bad intentions and he seems genuinely interested in Utena. He may just want to change his techniques for getting her to accept him though. :PThe art is still fabulous and I am just amazed at the amount of details! The side-stories were pretty fun to read, a real change from the normal stories. I thought it was quite fun that they were mostly from the monkey's POV. The premise is deceptively simple and decidedly shoujo - A young girl, distraught by the death of her parents is kissed by a traveling prince and given a ring, told that if she never loses that noble heart of hers it may one day lead her to him. So impressed is she by him, that the little girl vows to become a prince herself one day.But is that really such a good idea?Before I continue on with this review (and for the sake of convenience and in regard to this manga's rather short five volume length, I'll be reviewing it as a whole) I feel a bit of background is necessary, for the reader's experience with Chiho Saito's Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena) will differ greatly depending on whether or not you've had the pleasure of seeing the animated series - additionally and heavily influenced by Director Kunihiko Ikuhara and the brilliant minds of the BePapas team (including Yoji Enokido, a brilliant screenwriter). I have seen the entirety of the 39 episode anime series and the movie, Adolescence of Utena. In fact, its the anime I hold dearest to my heart and has had an incredible influence on my life and personal philosophy. This manga was developed alongside the series, and there is a lot of speculation concerning just how much influence Chiho had on both it and the series, how her ideas and talent where utilized, whether or not Chiho was kept in the dark on certain issues, and just what purpose the manga had -was it meant to be a separate continuity, or simply a running test before the animated series debuted?Having said that, this is one of the biggest cases of reverse adaptation-deterioration I've seen (meaning that that anime is leagues better), which I guess isn't completely fair to say for a number of reasons. The first being that this was written alongside the creation of the series, making it neither the original nor the re-telling. It's also unfair to expect a manga of this length to encompass the incredible amount of literal and figurative content expressed in the animated series. We're talking about a show that explored and subverted and referenced numerous philosophies, religions, fairy tales, archetypes, gender stereotypes and shoujo cliches to create a disturbingly moving and human story about self-revelation, the difference between dreams and reality, what adulthood and love is and is not, and redemption and saving oneself. So, on one hand I can understand and to a degree forgive this manga for its watered down and over simplified version of the characters and plot. For half the cast, beloved for their multifaceted personalities and depth in the series being represented by pale caricatures of themselves. For the removal of the Black Rose Arc (save one small bonus chapter). What I have a harder time forgiving is how much Saito seems not to get it. All the same tired shoujo cliches and romantic cheese found in the series can be found here, but sans any of the irony or subversion (granted, irony can be a lot harder to pull off in printed medium without going too over the top). It's like Saito watched the show and took it at face value. I also raise a bit of an eyebrow at some of the pointless changes Saito makes -whether they be for the sake of making a more commercially accessible product or for more troubling reasons- such as re-writing Juri's sexuality from lesbian to straight. You know. That little facet of Juri's character from which nearly the ENTIRETY of her story and development is rooted? She merely ignores the romantic subtext between the two most pivotal characters, Utena and Anthy, and the story suffers little for it, but this is a huge and entirely unnecessary edit. Saito went out of her way to establish Juri as a straight woman. For the sake of my sanity, I'll just assume something got lost in translation, as her and Ikuhara did seem to have communication issues during production, and its been said he is difficult to work with.Other than that, while the art and pacing is good, elements of Saito's storytelling and her art suffer tiny, awkward hiccups here and there, mostly in the form of weird postures and angles. The prologue is also fairly drawn out and boring without adding much of anything to the story other than that, hey, Utena has a an aunt and her prince likes to lick her face. Seriously. I don't know if that's how it's truly written or it's a mistranslation, but either way "Prince Licky-Licky" and oh god, yes, that is a quote, needs to not exist.Still, it's hard to go wrong with a story as intrinsically powerful as Utena's. Chiho Saito has her moments where the beauty and the gravity of the series is matched beat for beat or even exceeded and the ending is just as uplifting. Those sparse though memorable moments of storytelling genius make this manga worth picking up, even if only to whet one's appetite to see the series. You just have to slog through a lot of trite, poorly written moments to get to them.

Suzy becomes ill and is put on a special diet; the school becomes infested with maggots; odd sounds abound; and Daniel, the pianist, is killed by his own dog. A bit of research indicates that the ballet school was once a witches' coven - and as Suzy learns, still is.

The members of Led Zeppelin are called back from vacation by manager Peter Grant to play Madison Square Garden. The film is enhanced by each of the band member's personal fantasies (hallucinations?), such as the opening scene (which is awfully confusing the first time around) in which Peter Grant, dressed in a 1930s black gangster suit drives a 1930s black Ford to a house and blasts everyone with a machine gun.

A small and insignificant bookkeeper, Kleinman, is awoken one night by his neighbors who wants his help to track down a strangler who has been killing people all over town. The citizens form vigilance committees, but when Kleinman has dressed, his neighbors have disappeared. Meanwhile a circus has come to town. Irmy and Paul are two of the artists. After a fight, Irmy leaves the circus in the middle of the night. Eventually she meets Kleinman, scared and alone.

Cambridge University student Brian Roberts arrives in Berlin in 1931 to complete his German studies. Without much money, he plans on making a living teaching English while living in an inexpensive rooming house, where he befriends another of the tenants, American Sally Bowles. She is outwardly a flamboyant, perpetually happy person who works as a singer at the decadent Kit Kat Klub, a cabaret styled venue. Sally's outward façade is matched by that of the Klub, overseen by the omnipresent Master of Ceremonies. Sally draws Brian into her world, and initially wants him to be one of her many lovers, until she learns that he is a homosexual, albeit a celibate one. Among their other friends are his students, the poor Fritz Wendel, who wants to be a gigolo to live a comfortable life, and the straight-laced and beautiful Natalia Landauer, a Jewish heiress. Fritz initially sees Natalia as his money ticket, but eventually falls for her. However Natalia is suspect of his motives and cannot overcome their religious differences. Also into Sally and Brian's life comes the wealthy Baron Maximilian von Heune, who has the same outlook on life as Sally, but who has the money to support it. Max is willing to lavish his new friends with gifts and his favors. Around them all is the Nazi uprising, to which they seem to pay little attention or care. But they ultimately learn that life in all its good and particularly bad continues to happen to them and around them.

The myth of King Arthur (Nigel Terry) brought once again to the screen. Uthur Pendragon (Gabriel Byrne) is given the mystical sword Excalibur by the wizard Merlin. At his death, Uthur buries the sword into a stone, and the next man that can pull it out will be King of England. Several years later, Arthur, Uthur's bastard son, draws Excalibur and becomes King. Guided by Merlin, Arthur marries Guenevere (Cherie Lunghi) and gathers the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur's evil half-sister Morgana (Dame Helen Mirren) sires a son with him, who may prove to be his downfall.

Invisible aliens in a tiny flying saucer come to Earth looking for heroin. They land on top of a New York apartment inhabited by a drug dealer and her androgynous, bisexual nymphomaniac lover, who's also a fashion model. The aliens soon find the human pheromones created in the brain during orgasm preferable to heroin, and the model's casual sex partners begin disappearing. This increasingly bizarre scenario's observed by a lonely woman in the building across the street, a German scientist who's following the aliens, and an equally androgynous, drug-addicted male model (both models are played by Anne Carlisle). Darkly funny and thoroughly weird.

"Creepshow 2" is divided into three stories, conducted by a leading segment where a boy that loves the horror comic book Creepshow buys seeds of carnivorous plant and is bullied by four teenagers. Meanwhile the Creep tells the tales of Creepshow: (1) "Old Chief Wood'nhead" - The elders Ray (George Kennedy) and Martha Spruce (Dorothy Lamour) have lived their whole life and raised their family with their small store in an Arizona town. Now the town is economically decadent and Ray gives credit to his customers; including the Indians of Ben Whitemoon's tribe. When Ray is repairing the wooden statue of an old chief in the front door, Ben (Frank Salsedo) arrives and asks him to keep the jewels of his tribe as a guarantee for their debts. However, Ben's nephew Sam (Holt McCallany) unexpectedly arrives with two other punks to steal Ray, and he kills the elders. They expect to travel to Hollywood, but the Old Chief Wood'nhead will not let them go. (2) "The Raft" - The teenagers Deke (Paul Satterfield) and Randy (Daniel Beer) travel with Laverne (Jeremy Green) and Rachel (Page Hannah) to a lake expecting to smoke weed, swim and get laid. They swim to a raft that is floating in the middle of the lake, but they discover a carnivorous blob in the lake that is hungry. (3) "The Hitchhiker" - In Maine, the unfaithful Annie Lansing (Lois Chiles) stays too long having sex with her escort and is late to meet her husband in the airport. She drives her Mercedes Benz in a hurry and loses control on the road. Annie runs over a hitchhiker, but she does not help the man and hit-and-run, questioning whether she can live with the situation. She discovers that the hitchhiker will not leave her.

When a small town is invaded by aliens from outer space who are capturing and killing the townspeople, no one takes them seriously. Why? The aliens all look like circus clowns, use weapons that look clown like, and all have painted on smiles. Only a few of the young people in the town realize the danger and of course no one believes them. Armed with an ice cream truck they try and rescue their friends.

A two-segment look at the effect of the military mindset and war itself on Vietnam era Marines. The first half follows a group of recruits in boot camp under the command of the punishing Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second half shows one of those recruits, Joker, covering the war as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes, focusing on the Tet offensive.

Haunted by a persistent writer's block, the aspiring author and recovering alcoholic, Jack Torrance, drags his wife, Wendy, and his gifted son, Danny, up snow-capped Colorado's secluded Overlook Hotel after taking up a job as an off-season caretaker. As the cavernous hotel shuts down for the season, the manager gives Jack a grand tour, and the facility's chef, the ageing Mr Hallorann, has a fascinating chat with Danny about a rare psychic gift called "The Shining", making sure to warn him about the hotel's abandoned rooms, and, in particular, the off-limits Room 237. However, instead of overcoming the dismal creative rut, little by little, Jack starts losing his mind, trapped in an unforgiving environment of seemingly endless snowstorms, and a gargantuan silent prison riddled with strange occurrences and eerie visions. Now, the incessant voices inside Jack's head demand sacrifice. Is Jack capable of murder?

It's nearing the end of the school year. High school senior Carrie White is a social outcast, largely due to being unwise to the ways of the world based on her upbringing. Her mother, Margaret White, is a religious fanatic, her extreme views primarily targeted against sex, which she believes is a sin. She even believes natural associated processes such as menstruation are a sin, about which she has refused to mention to Carrie. Mrs. White's beliefs were taken to that extreme largely because of her own failed marriage and her husband Ralph long ago having run off with another woman. The only adult authority figure who tries to help Carrie with her life is her phys ed teacher, Miss Collins, who is nonetheless warned not to get too close to go against how Mrs. White chooses to raise Carrie, Mrs. White whose beliefs are well known in the community. An impromptu event that happens among Carrie's phys ed classmates against her leads to her classmates being punished. One of those students, self absorbed Chris Hargensen, vows revenge against Carrie for that punishment, the method of the revenge associated to the phys ed class incident. Another student however, the popular Sue Snell, begins to feel sorry for Carrie. In wanting to help her get out of her shell, Sue asks her boyfriend, the equally popular Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to the senior prom instead of her. This move does not sit well with Mrs. White, who in her extreme view believes Carrie will fall prey to sin. All these competing issues lead to Carrie deciding on an impulse to use a newfound skill to free herself from the figurative chains that have long been placed around her, with tragic consequences.

Mrs. Brisby, a widowed mouse, lives in a cinder block with her children on the Fitzgibbon farm. She is preparing to move her family out of the field they live in as plowing time approaches, however her son Timothy has fallen ill, and moving him could prove fatal. Mrs. Brisby visits The Great Owl, a wise creature who advises her to visit a mysterious group of rats who live beneath a rose bush on the farm. Upon visiting the rats, Brisby meets Nicodemus, the wise and mystical leader of the rats, and Justin, a friendly rat who immediately becomes attached to Mrs. Brisby. While there, she learns that her late husband, Mr. Jonathon Brisby, along with the rats, was a part of a series of experiments at a place known only as N.I.M.H. (revealed earlier in the story as the National Institute of Mental Health). The experiments performed on the mice and rats there boosted their intelligence, allowing them to read without being taught and to understand things such as complex mechanics and electricity. The rats and Mr. Brisby escaped from N.I.M.H. and came to live on the Fitzgibbon farm. The rats created a home for themselves under Mrs. Fitzgibbon's rose bush, creating an elaborate habitation of beautiful chambers, elevators, and Christmas lights. However, the rats are unhappy in their dependence on the humans, who they are stealing electricity from, and have concocted a plan to leave the farm and live independently. Because of her husband's prior relationship with the rats, they agree to help Mrs. Brisby move her home out of the path of the plow. However, the evil Jenner and his unwilling accomplice Sullivan, who wish to remain beneath the rose bush, yet plot to kill Nicodemus during the move.

Mischa and Hannibal, baby brother and sister, are inseparable; it is their love for each other that ties their bond. Their companionship is forever binding, until, with their family, while hiding from the Nazi war machine a twisted set of circumstance sets the pace for a most vicious attack on the future of one Hannibal Lecter for the sworn vengeance for the brutal killing of his baby sister. A scientist living in an apartment complex kills a girl and uses acid to destroy her internal organs, and then kills himself. While investigating, a doctor discovers that the scientist was doing experiments on the use of genetically engineered parasites as organ transplants. Rob Petrie is the head writer for the television sketch comedy, the Alan Brady Show, starring the egotistical Alan Brady. Rob's appointment started off as being a controversial one, especially to his two co-writers, the more experienced Buddy Sorrell and Sally Rogers, who end up becoming his friends regardless. Rob has to balance his New York City work life with his New Rochelle home life with wife Laura Petrie, who he met while he was in the army and she a dancer with a USO troupe, and their young son Ritchie. Although largely content in her roles as housewife and mother, Laura on occasion aspires to her former dancer life, which places added complications into the marriage.

Steven and Elyse Keaton, once 1960s radicals, now find themselves in Reagan-era America trying to raise a traditional suburban family.
