Created by Matt Tarses (Scrubs, The Goldbergs), the series is based on Alex Blumberg's Gimlet Media podcast StartUp, which documented Blumberg's own attempt to launch a startup with Gimlet Media.

On May 11, 2018, the series was cancelled after one season.

The series follows Alex Schuman, a radio journalist, husband and father of two, who decides to quit his job and start his own company. He is married to Rooni and the father of two mixed-race, Bengali American children.
