In the Discovery section on Joseph Priestly it says that he discovered a candle or a mouse in a sealed container could "injure" air. This may work as a simple explanation, but his belief was that the air became saturated with "phlogiston" which was incompatible with life or fire. His idea was that plants "dephlogisticated" the air by absorbing it (When he discovered oxygen he called it "dephlogisticated air"!)http://www.jimloy.com/physics/phlogstn.htm I think this should be changed because it's more accurate and shows what people thought photosynthesis involved back then.
