The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore Summary & Study Guide
Cody BaughnPer.4 The book that I choose to read this grading period was The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore. This book's genre is science fiction/ mystery. The author choose's to begin the story with the town constable, (city council police officer) Theo Crowe investigating a suicide of a women whom was on anti-depressants. As Theo investigate's the suicide, Valerie Riordan (town psychiatrist) feel's responsible for the woman's death because of her blind faith in anti-depressants. So she decides to replace the whole town's supply of anti-depressants with placebos, without her patient's knowing. As the town begin's to go wild a sea beast, named Steve, begin's to wreak havoc among the town of Pine Cove. I really enjoyed this book, because of how the author showed how each character developed throughout the book. The author did this by writing from a different character's perspective each chapter, by doing this the author was able to inform the reader in greater depth on each character while still making it the story appealing to readers. I also enjoyed how the author remained to still use real life (beside's the sea monster) regardless of the books fictional genre, I feel that this brought a more realistic feeling to the book. Another thing about this book that I enjoyed was how funny it was. I would recommend this book to anyone in high school or above, because their are some rather mature moments and if the reader is not old enough they would be unable to grasp the full meaning of the jokes.
