Queen Clarion's Secret

2007Kimberly Morris

4.4/5

My daughter loves this series. I chose to read Queen Clarion's Secret because it is one of her favorites. Prilla was flying right behind the queen, when suddenly, "POOF!" The beautiful queen disappeared. Also missing is the precious heart seed from Lily's rare fairy pink rose. Are these two mysteries related? Of course they are. Other fairies help follow the clues Queen Clarion left behind. The feminine fairies end up in a scary setting called High Tree Forest. They have to try to find the queen in a big, dark, scary forest. Even though the story is very predictable and the characters are two dimensional, compared to other similar books I enjoyed this book. There is a main plot and a sub-plot, which I don't often find in books written at a second or third grade reading level (2.9 to be precise). I wish were more than one or two pictures per chapter, because they are beautiful and colorful. The cartoon illustrations are from the same style as Tinkerbell (the Peter Pan spinoff) and create a happy feeling for their far-off adventure. I suspect most second or third grade girls would love this series for fun, fantasy reading. Reading my daughter's book made me want to fly!
