Trainspotting & Shallow Grave
I wanted to read the screenplays as I'm a screenwriter myself and wanted to see these iconic British films from a screenwriting pov. Especially as I'm a huge Irvine Welsh fan and avid fan of Trainspotting, I was curious to read the script and John Hodge really had his work cut out for him in adapting the book into a cohesive narrative on screen but he did it magnificently, while it's not necessarily the best written screenplay you'll ever read, the flow is superb, for a film where so much happens it never feels overcomplicated and is so easy to read and visualise which is the key here, the beauty is in the simplicity. I was surprised by how good Shallow Grave was in script form too, it is arguably better than the finished product, the character of Alex especially really jumped off the page and I saw how perfect it was for Ewan McGregor to play. Recommended reading for cinephiles.
