Point Horror Collection #4: The R.L. Stine Collection
I’d read so many of Stine’s Goosebumps books as a kid, which soon lead me to the Point Horror series. When I spotted he’s name attached to this range, I instantly wanted to read as many as possible.20 years later and with numerous podcasts and blogs covering the books, it’s made me want to read them all over again! The Babysitter:Jenny starts her new job babysitting Donny, but with a Babysitter attacker being reported in the news it makes her even more nervous on her first day.Stine really has fun with the jump scares here, most of the cliffhangers are weakly resolved - but that’s the fun part with these books. All the classic tropes are used with creepy anonymous phone calls, a cat jumping out at Jenny and the obnoxious young boy.I really enjoyed revisiting this one.The Boyfriend:Joanne is told that her ex-boyfriend has died in an accident, but when she constantly sees him around town she starts to question if there’s some unfinished business between the pair.A fun fast paced story, I’ve re-read quite a few of these Point Horrors now so the ending was quite obvious.I like the way that Stine raised the stakes throughout. The Girlfriend:Scotty cheats on he’s girlfriend Lora whilst she’s away on holiday with Shannon. The only problem is Shannon soon becomes totally obsessed with Scotty, what price is he about to pay? This is the first Point Horror title that I’ve come across which has a male as the main protagonist of the story, which really helped it stand out!
