Great Gatsby

I can see why this book is the great American novel from the way Gatsby was born and raised poor on a North Dakota farm and leaves it all behind to become a self made millionaire. You would think he would have some of those midwestern values instilled in him, but he loses himself trying to fit into the “old money” crowd in order to win over Daisy. I’m not entirely sure what he even likes about any of those characters—in all honesty, Gatsby is the most interesting out of all of them. Even the narrator pretends that he has good values and isn’t judgmental, yet, the entire book is basically him judging everyone else.  I guess I’m not entirely sure what the message is. Chasing fame and fortune can ruin you but also chasing the American dream can ruin you? Love is dangerous? Don’t spend 5 years of your life chasing a woman who doesn’t really even love you back?   They all deserved everything they had coming for them imo.  I liked the detail in the writing, but I also felt that there were some areas that didn’t make a lot of sense. There was a lack of character development on some of the main characters & some of the relationships I didn’t understand
