A Little SPOT of Happiness

2019Diane Alber

2.8/5

A Little Spot of Happiness is a beautiful book showing how you can create a happiness spot and how happiness spreads. This is the first book in the A Little Spot Of series we've read and I'm really surprised at how good this book is. I expected it to be a good book but the way the book takes you on a journey with the emotion of happiness is brilliant and by having each feeling and emotion as a coloured spot it makes it really easy for the children to see how the emotions can work together. The story has lots of examples of how you can make people happy, in a variety of different ways, which is great for the children to see and encouraging for them to think of their own ideas and see how they can help create happiness for themselves or others. The illustrations in the book are very eye catching and the children loved looking at them throughout the book. They are full of bright colours and fun cartoon like images of children interacting with happiness and the emotion spots themselves. I think it's really effective how some of the feelings pages are all that colour (like calm being a green page of illustrations) as it shows just how much an emotion can spread. This is a beautiful book and definitely worth a read for children (or adults!) young and old, an amazing book on the emotion of happiness and a good reminder of how we can help spread it further to cheer ourselves and others up!
