Pandora / The Vampire Armand

2006Anne Rice

4.8/5

(Review of Vittorio the Vampire):Disappointing. Though hardly the majority’s favourite, I was still eager to read one of Rice’s ‘new tales of the Vampires series,’ having a curious interest in where she would go with the characters and, suffice to say, holding little enthusiasm regarding Pandora’s release – inadvertently making Vittorio a best bet.In short? Quite dull. I drifted seamlessly through the story with faint interest in what was going on. I’m (what appears to be) in the minority of long-term Rice admirers (really – I even loved Tale of the Body Thief) and even I felt this lacking in fluidity in awe. Throughout the novel I was less drawn to Vittorio than I was to both Pandora and Akasha combined. Having read it so quickly was not a good thing by means of determination, but rather by the rush to finish a dreary story so quickly. Usually I am constantly admiring Rice’s commendable ability to grip the reader, but with Vittorio, I felt absolutely nothing. Truthfully, I regret the time I spent with it; I felt it could’ve been time spent better elsewhere. Queue other Rice titles, please.
