1. Awards the book has received (if any) N/a2. Appropriate grade level(s) Pre-K to 1st grade3. Original summary (be succinct -- no more than 3 sentences) When Katie's grandmother falls asleep during one of their museum visits Katie starts talking to the Mona Lisa. Together, they wander through the museum, hopping from painting to painting to make Mona Lisa smile. Katie and Mona Lisa travel into famous works of art, from The Lion of St. Mark by Carpaccio, to Primavera by Botticelli. 4. Original review (be succinct -- no more than 3 sentences) This is an excellent piece of fiction incorporates historical elements from some of the most famous renaissance paintings to create a fantastical tale of adventure. Katie's questioning prompts further and further exploration, and each painting introduces an important element of each of the included paintings. 5. 1-2 possible in-class uses (these can be as specific or general as you’d like — try to think through what we’ve talked about so far, what you’ve observed in your FW classrooms, and anything else you come up with) This can be used in a lesson on renaissance artwork, art, or museums. I would love to do a lesson involving this book and a museum field trip, and have my students pick a painting in the museum and create a story for it!
