The Siren Song

4.4/5

This is the second book in a new series for young readers about the teenage years of Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, when he first became a pirate and went off in search of treasure. This book picks up shortly after volume one, The Coming Storm, left off. Young Jack Sparrow and the rest of the crew of the Barnacle -- Arabella, Jean, Tumen, and Constance -- have managed to survive an encounter with an infamous pirate, but now they have learned that the legendary Davy Jones is after the same treasure the young adventurers are searching for, the Sword of Cortes. Knowing how dangerous the sword would be in the hands of Davy Jones, the crew is more determined then ever to find it. But shortly after they once again set sail, strange things begin to happen. A mysterious island appears out of nowhere, a sea monster attacks the ship, and there is a strange, constant song coming from the sea that causes everyone except Jack to behave very strangely. And this time, Jack will have to figure out what is going on and save his ship and his friends all on his own. This book was a good continuation of the first book in the series. The dialogue was very amusing, and reading about the young characters and their adventures was very entertaining. I look forward to reading future books in this series and seeing what adventures await the crew of the Barnacle next. I would recommend this series to all fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean film; although they are written with younger readers in mind, I think older fans could enjoy these books as well.
