Stomping Out the Darkness

This was a hand-me-down as a Christmas gift from Y, who likewise had this gifted to her by someone else. At first, this seemed okay, and I liked how it attempted to address why people are the way they are - what they have inherited from Adam, and what has been lost as a result of the fall from grace. Towards the next two chapters, it seemed a little "quick-fix" - just do these things, recite these verses and you'll be fine - good to know, good reassurances but surely things aren't as easy as that. Midway, I also felt that the language was a little too teenage to get through for someone my age - I wiki-ed this, and true enough, it turned out to be the youth version of another book. At the same time, it quotes verses by reference, not always stating the context or verse (usually just the reference, or at best, paraphrased), which makes it a little odd if catered to younger readers that it intends to reach out to who may not know their Bible that well.Still, it was quite a good book as a starting point or framework of what the Christian life is like, but definitely not the be-all-and-end-all book. I'm quite sure I could find more books that would build up from the basics of this book.#January2013
