Still has stupid funny moments like the previous books. This one, they are still on a quest to get Morgif. The humans on the boat seem to think to throw food and bones onto the floor that they dance on is high class, which is a little wried but okay. Kids are cruel, and it gets portrayed well in this. Beatrice: Do you dye your hair?Yuri: That's right. How'd you know?Beatrice: Because it doesn't look good on you.Yuri: ... Yuri's contact falls out at one point, and that doesn't make sense to me. I see that happen in books/movies/tv shows, but I have never seen or heard of anyone in real life have a contact fall out of their eye. I wear contacts and it's never happened to me. I find this to just be silly and a little stupid. Miss Big Biceps and Conrad look cute together. You find out a few pages later that they are just really good friends. Either way, they seem like they know each other very well. You slowly start to see that Wolfram really cares for Yuri, whether it's just friendship or actually love, is still unclear. Wolfram still gets upset and accuses Yuri of cheating. It's both for comic relief but also seems to hint at a future relationship. Love how cats say "Baa Baa" instead of "Moew". It's nice that the pirates are in sailor girl uniforms. Breaking down the "Clothes have a specific gender they belong to." To bad the pirates were trying to sell people into slavery. Kind of ruins the "clothes don't have a gender" thing, making it seem like if you wear the clothes of the opposite gender that you will do something evil. Still has racism, with Wolfram "pointing out" that humans didn't care that Yuri saved them from the pirates. They still locked them up, just because they were demon tribe. And that the "Humans are the foolish ones." from locking them up. Josak has a point testing Yuri to see if he's going to be a good ruler or not. If he isn't, then the soldiers have to work harder to keep the kingdom running, and other background characters would need to step up. But if Yuri is willing to step up and run to kingdom instead of letting others, then everyone else can work to support him. How Josak did the test might not have been the best, but he did get his answer either way.
