Cry, Heart, But Never Break

1.8/5
I love picture books about complicated subjects, and perhaps especially, grief. Who helps kids understand death, especially the death of loved ones? In this story lovingly and lyrically told by Danish author Glenn Ringtved and beautifully illustrated by Danish illustrator Charlotte Pardi, four young children living with their grandmother are visited by Death. They know who he is and why he is there; grandma is slipping away. They are nevertheless hurt and confused, so he tells them a story about the inextricable relations between joy and grief. He's a loving character, who helps them understand and come to terms with their loss. So beautiful and important!I have to say I read this because I found it on the incomparable Maria Popova's Brainpickings site, so I recommend you read her beautiful analysis after you read the book.https://www.brainpickings.org/2016/03...
