Books like Beauty and the Beast

The version of the tale Ursula Jones rewrites in this lovely illustrated retelling is by Madame de Beaumont, and she stays fairly faithful but for the little detail that Beast is a tad more brutish and threatening than originally.The artwork by Sarah Gibb is gorgeous, in a style that calls back Pienkowski's amazing silhouette style, although hers is in a more colourful and more feminine palette. I like her style here, it's a better example of her work than my introduction, which left me disappointed. What I'd observe, though, is Beast's figure doesn't look all that "beastly" and the design goes for the conventional human with an animal head, which in this style appears a tad disproportionate for the body.
