This was a short story from Tarver’s point of view, which takes place 6 months before ‘These Broken Stars’. I have to say that I found this a little dull really, and I had to take breaks, which considering how short this is – is ridiculous.I liked the bits where Tarver and Lilac were talking, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the rest of the story.6 out of 10

This Night So Dark

This novella we see Tarver before he goes on board the Icarus ship and before he meets Lilac, but it also goes between present Tarver and past Tarver. I actually like the fact that i got to learn more about Tarver and how different his life was prior to him going onto the Icarus because he has changed so much from the past right up until were we meet him in the beginning of book one. I enjoyed meeting some of the characters in Tarver's past because i got a sense of how different he's become.   for the most part however i found a lot of the back story stuff pretty dull to get through so it's one thing i struggled with a lot, but i did enjoy the Tarver and Lilac stuff of this novella. It's like i got to reunite with some old friends after spending time apart which was nice.     There’s no what’s next, there’s only now, and this moment lasts forever.     I highly recommend you reading these broken stars which is the first book in the trilogy before tackling this novella because things do get spoiled from the main story.    this was an enjoyable novella not the best i've read but still give it a go if you want to learn more about the characters from the starbound world.
