Books like The Unwanteds Box Set

I am writing about the third book, the Island of Fire. This book was not as great in the character department as the other ones. In this book the characters developed great emotions, but in the first two there was something between Alex and Lani and in this book it starts to break. It is great for a romance novel but I feel like Meg is a fifth wheel now with Sam and Lani and Sky and Alex. Meg might still have Cole but I don't know if Cole ever came back. I think that at the end of the book when Aaron comes to see if Alex saw the explosion too. I think that Aaron was trying to look out for Alex a little. I think if Aaron was forced to live in Artime then he would be ok as a person, but Aaron always pushes away emotion and doesn't let what he needs in. It says at the end that Aaron has more magic in him than we thought. I'm ok with the character emotional change but i am not really a romance book liker. As long as there is no awkwardness between the friends then i will be perfectly fine.
