The Right Society

Devout Christians Mary and David Gentry fall victim to a number of crimes and think they have found a solution to escaping the dangers of the world when they join a Christians-only town in Georgia. It is called New Jordan. As required by flamboyant minister, the Rev. Exekiel Jenkins, they must sell everything they have and turn over their funds to the new town with the understanding that they can get their money back if they decide to leave. Struggling architect David is thrilled when he is given the task of designing a whole new city. In only a few days, Mary is beginning to suspect they've made a big mistake. There are no locks on the doors to their lovely new home and she's sure that while she's at work, someone is going through their things. Television programming is tightly controlled and there is no library. The women of the town are expected to live as they did in Biblical times, with modest clothing, no makeup, no jewelry, no hair products, and to Mary's horror, no birth control. She rebels and is punished by a work detail she despises. She soon declares that she wants to get their money back and go home to her little Baptist church in Michigan. A series of narrow escapes from suspicious accidents has her on the alert. David is spending a lot of time with his beautiful new secretary. Would he be happier if Mary were out of the way? When everything seems worst, she finds an friend where she least expects one. Mary is determined to get her old life back but she learns that it's much easier to get into New Jordan than it is to get out.
