Four stars for hitting the target audience right on the head. Ivan loves these books, and will sit and listen to them until I finish the book or we have to stop for some other reason, which is quite a long time to sit still when you're just barely five. The books are formulaic, but that's what this age group works with best, as they're just learning to predict things that will happen. Bonus points for setting up the jampire thing several books before the final reveal, and other little thing that have continuity (like the first several books talking about the weird lunches, so it doesn't come out of nowhere when ice cream for lunch is a huge deal). It would have been easy to take the super-formula route and basically treat each book like a sitcom, where the character traits or problems crop up just in time to be plot relevant, and then disappear completely. That the author cared enough to put in the details and foreshadowing so that reading them in order pays off is appreciated.
