The Lion King

1994, Hal Leonard Corporation

4.8/5

The lion king is a very amazing book, I can read it over and over again. This book shows you who your true family is and who you can trust in your life. I could never imagine betraying my brother or sister like scar did to Mufasa. Simba was mufasa's son, and he would soon become king just like his dad. How could someone be so evil, especially to their own blood, someone they are supposed to love and take care of. This book can really teach you a lot about the people around you. What really made this book sad was when simba ran to his father lying there. It reminds me of the movie in so many ways, it made me want to watch it. Simba had to get out of there because he wasn't safe being there with the hyenas and his uncle scar. It came to my attention that scar wanted to become king but didn't get the reward. All it was, was jealousy from the start for him. He was so little, i couldn't imagine living on my own for so many years. He basically started his own life, then he went back to fix things which made the kingdom much better then it was when scar was trying to take over.WARNING: SPOILERS AND DISCUSSION OF ESSENTIAL PLOT ELEMENTS FOLLOW The exposition is when mufasa stands on the pride rock and rafiki the monkey holds the lion kings son simba, as the animals of the pride lands celebrate the birth of their future king. No one else should be honored kind except for simba because scar does not deserve to be king. All scar has is jealousy because he never got to become king. I feel like that's what made him want to rule in a bad way and be evil. The setting of the book is in Africa. There are different kinds of animals in the kingdom. There's the hyenas, giraffes, different types of birds, rhinos, lions, zebras etc.. Simba and nala were playing in the tall green grass, trying to trick the bird. When they lost the bird they met up with the hyenas, they weren't safe at all. That environment they were in wasn't pretty at all, it was full of sticks and fire, looked nothing like a kingdom. The hyenas were about to eat the little lions but simbas dad made it on time. The protagonist is simba. He grows up all by himself and meets a couple friends that stick with him through anything. Simba has been living with the fact that it was his fault that his dad died, but it wasn't. What simba don't know is that scar did it on purpose and he lied about telling simba it was all his fault. Simba lived all by himself for a couple years, but when he heard about scar he had to go back. He grew so much, he looks just like his dad, so cute. The antagonist is scar. Everything he does is evil and unhearted. He killed his brother mufasa because whenever he needed help trying to make it to the top of the cliff, he let go of his paw. He then blames simba for his dads death, this makes simba run far away. Scar makes simba run and then gets the hyenas to chase him and kill him, but they fail at that. He wants to be king so babdly but he can't relate to what simba and his dad is. There was a reason why they never wanted him king anyway because at the end he rules with evil. The conflict is when simba is born and is going to be the prince. His uncle scar sees that he will not get the chance to become king, so he decides to take it by force. He makes a plan to kill both simba and mufasa. He tells simba to practice his roar, but when he roars it starts to echo. Scar leaves simba on the little rock by the tree, then a big herd starts running down the path. Simba tries to get out safe, that's when scar tells mufasa that his son is in danger. He goes to try and help his son, simba is safe but mufasa needs help up the cliff, and that's when scar betrays mufasa. The rising action is when scar allows mufasa to fall off the cliff in the middle if the stampede to his death, while simba helplessly watches. He tries to get to his father but it's to late, blaming his self he runs away and gets lost in the forest. He then finds his way through the forest and meets timon and pumbaa. Simba grows into an adult with their help and care. Simba reunites with nala later; on his friend. She tells him everything that is going on at pride rock and wants him to take his place back as king. The climax is when simba and scar fight for the throne. It's the most powerful of the book, it shows leadership and kindness qualities in simba and scars true colors. Instead of running away; he fights for his throne and handles it. It was an epic part in the book, I thought it was cool how simba had the strength to defeat scar and take back everything he has ever lost. Simba is almost convinced that it was his fault until scar whispered that he killed mufasa. Then simba makes scar admit he is the murderer to the pride. The falling action is when simba and scar end the fight. The hyenas then turn against him because he blamed them for it. He only looks out for himself and that's it. It is when scar is defeated, abig storm cleans up the mess scar has made. The rain puts out the fire and gives water to the dying plant life. Once the storm clears everything out the sun shines on the rightful king and this is the moment simba is restored as king, fulfilling his destiny. The resolution is when nala and simba have a baby. It's basically a repeat to the beginning. The baby is the next future king, just like simba was. Nala and simba been friends for a very long time and when they reunited that really helped things out in the kingdom. Shes the one who told him that scar was ruling in a bad manner and didn't know how to treat them. This made him think then he saw his dad which made him go back to the kingdom and fight for what's his. There were a lot of secondary characters like timon and pumbaa, they're the one who helped and stood by simba while he was growing up. They even went back to the kingdom and fight with simba as well. zazu is also a character who cares about the safety of simba and everyone else, he was mufasas most trusted bird. The monkey in the book is rafiki hes the one who showed simba his dad and drew the lion on simbas forehead. Overall, this book was pretty amazing and i loved it as well as the movie. I lie how the characters in this book can all get along. It was also a very sad book a lot of things happened. When simbas dad died, I think it was wrong how he thought it was his fault, he was so little though. What I couldn't stand was the fact that scar wanted the throne but he couldn't get it. At the end simba fights back for the throne after being gone for many years, his mom though he was mufasa but it was simba.
