The Last Piece of My Heart
I’m already a huge fan of Paige and her writing, I first discovered her a few years ago and the first book I read by her ended up being my favourite; Pictures of Lily just struck a chord with me, it was in no way similar to my life, sadly, but I loved it all the same. However I can honestly say The Last Piece of My Heart will stay with me forever, it was simply stunning. The Last Piece of My Heart follows Bridget a travel journalist who wants to become a writer. While travelling the world Bridget’s writes a witty romance blog about ex-boyfriends, falling in love and relationships, more specifically about break ups and how we lose a pieces of ourselves. When Bridget’s blog becomes an internet success she’s able to go back and visit her past partner’s to see if she can claim back the piece she left behind.\
“The problem with giving your heart away to someone is that you never fully get it back.”\
Bestselling author Nicole Dupre died before she could finish the sequel to her extremely popular book and Bridget has been asked to finish it. Bridget eagerly accepts and travels to Cornwall to hopefully get a better idea of what Nicole wanted in a sequel by looking through her notes and to meet her widow, Charlie. What I loved most about this book was how Toon was able to perfectly balance such hard-hitting emotion and humour. Bridget was a fantastic main character, you got to see her visit some truly terrible ex-boyfriends, struggle with the pressure of trying to give the book millions of readers expect and build a relationship with grief-stricken Charlie. The romance was my favourite part of the book, watching Bridget and Charlie slowly build a friendship and then a relationship was just beautiful. I laughed when Bridget finally made Charlie smile, I cried when Charlie cried, I honestly went on a little bit of a emotion roller-coaster. I completely devoured this book in two sittings and read it with a smile from ear to ear.The Last Piece of My Heart is a gorgeous book filled with love, loss and hope. I laughed, I cried and laughed some more. Readers will be hooked from the first page and this story will stick with them long after reading.Literary-ly Obsessed (Blog) | Twitter | Instagram
