Books like Shattered / Whispers / Watchers

My third book, but I should say third, fourth and fifth novels, by Koontz and my first deceptions regarding this author. In each novel, one of the main problem I have is with the protagonists and their personal stories and relationships. I don't mind a little romance in horror and suspense novels but in this case, I must admit it felt a bit like reading Danielle Steel! (even if I've never read anything by her)Shattered is ok, a classic story of stalker and prey with little or no surprises towards the end, obviously an early work and clearly not his best. Whispers is a little better, with more introspection into the psyche of the protagonists, the bad guys being much more interesting than the good ones. Of all three, Watchers is definitely the best. One area where Koontz absolutely shines is in the action scenes, when he starts throwing his helpless characters into moments of sheer terror, it's a real treat and the reader enjoys it!But I won't keep that one in my book shelves.
